Aileen Fitzpatrick Obituary

Fitzpatrick, Aileen B. CASTLETON Aileen "Bunny" Berin Fitzpatrick (Saich), 81 of Castleton, and formerly of Flushing, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2021, in Albany. Aileen was born on August 29, 1939, in Mitchelstown, County Cork, Ireland the daughter of Arthur and Josephine (Bergen) Saich. She emigrated to the United States at 16, initially to Boston to her siblings and then to Woodside, N.Y. where she met her lifelong girlfriends who she spent countless fun days and nights together on the Sound or at the Rockaways. After six years of dating Danny he popped the question and Bunny marched him to the rectory to set a date. They started their family together in Long Island City, then Bunny and Dan moved to Flushing and spent 40 wonderful years there raising seven kids, shuffling them from school events, soccer, softball, basketball, track meets, the lake house and everywhere in between. Mom was always up for learning and trying something new, from breeding Shi-Tzus, to her master gardening, Tai-Chi in Bowne Park to art classes. It seemed as if she could do it all. She loved conversations, traveling, a good laugh and family above all else. Survivors include her children, Dara (Jon Perlow) - her first favorite, Sinead (Michael Hayes) - another favorite, Terence - her real favorite), Aileen (Fred Guerra) - her other favorite, Susan Nixon - one of her favorites, and Cormac (Colleen) - her other real favorite; grandchildren, Russell, Haley, Kevin, Gray, Quinn, Jasmyn, Sasha, Teagan, and Siobhan; and many loved nieces and nephews - you know who the favorite is there... She was predeceased by the love of her life, Daniel J. Fitzpatrick; her son, Daniel O. Fitzpatrick; son-in-law Ryan Nixon; and siblings, Arthur, John, Marie, Michael and Nancy. The Fitzpatrick family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the whole team at the Memory Care unit at Loudonville Assisted Living Residence who cared for Bunny as if she was their mother and sister. Bunny's final days were magical days made possible by the phenomenal team at the Gabrielove Unit at St. Peter's. Friends and family are invited to her calling hours from 2 - 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home Inc, 165 Columbia Tpke., Rensselaer. Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Monday at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home and 9 a.m. in the Church of The Holy Spirit for the Mass of Christian Death and Burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Aileen's name to the Yaddo Gardens at www.yaddo.org/support/individual-giving.

I wish to offer my condolences to you all on the loss of your beloved mother. Auntie Bernie was very kind to me, which I will never forget, when I stayed with ye all in NY back in 1979 at a time when I was a pretty clueless young Irish girl. Auntie Berni was full of ‘spark’ and was always happy to talk about anything and everything. She visited me in the UK with my first baby, only a few months old, with your brother Danny, ferrying with them essential edibles for the household. Their visit was exceedingly welcome. They came in, took over the making of tea and found seats for themselves, absolving me of all visitor responsibility. Rest in Peace, dear Auntie Bernie Uncle Dan and Nephew Danny, lovingly remembered.
