Alan Duncan Obituary

Duncan, Alan L. MEDUSA Alan L. Duncan, 72, passed away suddenly at home on Monday morning, November 19, 2018. Born at home in Medusa on April 19, 1946, he was a son of the late Howard L. and Bertha Knowles Duncan. Alan was a graduate of Greenville Central School. He was employed for 42 years in the shipping department at Stiefel Laboratories, retiring in 2009. Alan was a lifelong resident of Medusa and was very active in his community. He was fondly known as "the Mayor of Medusa." In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball and umpired a few games, which inspired him to be a strong fan of the New York Yankees. He was a member of the Medusa Volunteer Fire Company for many years and was Bingo chairman. Alan also served for more than 30 years as president of the Medusa Cemetery Association. He was a member of the Medusa United Church of Christ and ran rummage sales at the church for many years, until his health failed. He enjoyed going to garage sales and flea markets, and was always willing to help anyone in need. Alan is survived by his siblings, Len (Peg) Duncan, Ken Duncan, Janet Hoyt, Gloria Diamond, Ronnie (Glorie) Duncan, and Patty (John) Case; sisters-in-law, Janice Duncan and Arlene (David) Ingalls; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Alan was predeceased by two brothers, Reggie and Rudy Duncan. Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside memorial service, with fire company honors, on Saturday, November 24, at 1 p.m. in the Medusa Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Medusa United Church of Christ, Medusa, NY, 12120 will be appreciated. Condolences may be expressed at ajcunninghamfh.com.
