ALBANY - Albert A. Blackman, 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2025, with his family by his side. He was born on August 5, 1946, to Clarise and Fitz Irvine Blackman in Cave Hill, St. Michael, Barbados.
Albert received his early education in Barbados and went on to work for the Barbados Government Treasury Department. At age 22, Albert emigrated to the U.S. He furthered his education at Baruch College, then received his MBA from the University of Albany. The majority of Albert's career was spent in service to New York State (29 years), with a notable appointment as the Director of Internal Audit for the Workers' Compensation Board by Gov. George Pataki.
Outside of work, Albert quickly gained notoriety in the cricket community for his bowling (pitching) prowess. He led a life rich in service, including contributions to the revival of Macedonia Baptist Church. Deeply committed to education, Albert was a passionate supporter of youth in Albany and dedicated his time to uplifting young lives. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 40 years, Jennifer. He was also a loving father to his children, Dr. Loneke Blackman Carr (Darien Carr, husband) and Dr. Horatio Blackman (Dr. Molly Beiting, wife). He leaves behind four grandchildren. Albert was preceded in death by his son, Balewa Albert Blackman (killed in the Sep. 11 attacks), his grandson Chadwick Blackman, and six siblings. Albert leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews in Scotland, the U.K., and Barbados. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on August 22, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 26 Wilson Ave., Albany, N.Y.
