Barbara Heffron Obituary

SCOTIA Barbara P. Heffron, 79, formerly of Cortland, N.Y. died peacefully Tuesday, December 24, 2002 at the Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Bath, N.Y. on July 17, 1923, she moved to Groton, N.Y. in the 1930s. She was valedictorian, class of 1941 at Groton Central School and was a graduate of the former Cortland Business School where she was at the top of her class. During World War II, she worked for the Federal Government in Washington, DC and later was employed by various businesses in Cortland, Ithaca and Groton, N.Y. She retired in 1985 from Ward Laboratories at Cornell University where she was a secretary. She was a member of the Loyal Circle of Kings Daughters, Cortland, N.Y. Mrs. Heffron had moved to Albany in 1995 and lived in Scotia since 2001. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Kenneth E. Heffron and her son, William Heffron. Mother of Susan (John) Donahue of Scotia and Edward (Elaine) Heffron of Albany; sister of Frances Beames of Chico, Calif., Marie Gorenc of Fairview Park, Ohio; grandmother of Christine (Daniel) Bobowski and Karen (Donald) Green; great-grandmother of David Bobowski and Michael Green. Also survived by two nieces and five nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Burnt Hills Baptist Church, Kingsley Rd., Burnt Hills. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to the Groton Public Library, E. Cortland St., Groton, NY 13073 or United Community Church, Church St., Cortland, NY 13045.
