Bernadette Coomaraswamy Obituary

Coomaraswamy, Bernadette COHOES Bernadette Coomaraswamy passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018, at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes. Bernadette moved to Cohoes from Connecticut in 2015. She enjoyed every blizzard, ice storm and sunny day that came her way. She will be missed by all. Bernadette was a retired Magistrate. One of two women to graduate from Fordham Law in 1959, she practiced in New York and Connecticut and worked closely with Mother Teresa and the Sisters of Charity. Predeceased by her husband Rama; and children, Francesca and Nicholas. She is survived by her four living children, Frank, Mike, Pete, Maria; and countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bernadette's family would like to thank the staff at Marjorie Doyle Rockwell Center and the Eddy Village Green especially Chris, Carey, Julia, Shamika, Jaime, Sharon, Lisa, Ruthie, Eden and Sue. A very special friendship with Jack Kline and his family made her last year a treasure. Funeral services will be held in Wilton, Conn. on Monday, January 22. A family burial will be held in Greenwich, Conn. In lieu of flowers, Bernadette's family asks that you think of all the professional elder caregivers who work tirelessly to comfort the sick. A simple act of kindness, or thank you to your local senior living center would mean the world. Bernadette lived her life according to Mother Teresa's words "There are no great things, only small things with great love." She asks that you pass these words onto everyone with love.

Mrs Coomaraswamy was my business law teacher in 1964-65. Her enthusiasm for topics under discussion and gentle way of steering you toward a reasonable conclusion were truly an inspiration. I have fond memories of her class and thank her for encouraging me to further my education. May God give her eternal peace. Anthony Bianchini, Colonie NY
