Carl Dembrosky Obituary

Dembrosky, Carl "Mickey"
LATHAM - Carl "Mickey" Dembrosky, 77, of Latham passed away in Tamarac, Florida on January 27, 2024.
Born in Troy, N.Y., he was the son of the late Carl P. and Agnes Dembrosky. He grew up in Watervliet, graduated from Siena College (ROTC) and served in the U.S. Army, rank of captain in the Vietnam War.
He was the loving husband of Anne M. (Kelly) Dembrosky, proud father of Michael C. (Melissa) Dembrosky of Latham and cherished "Poppy" of Alexis L. Dembrosky.
Upon return from military service, Mick worked for several NYS Agencies, retiring as Director from the NYS Department of Health.
After retirement, his "Happy Place" in the winter months was the Ft. Lauderdale area of Florida, where he enjoyed warm weather, Miami Dolphin football games, Sunday afternoons at Joe and Eileen Nichols, and a cocktail with friends at Bob G's Bar and Restaurant.
Summers were spent watching his granddaughter's lacrosse games and family vacations at the Jersey Shore.
Mick deeply cherished the friendship and kindness of everyone he met throughout his life. He loved to reminisce about the happy times growing up in Port Schuyler, memories of his childhood friends, and playing neighborhood sports.
He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees (especially Mickey Mantle and Thurman Munson) and the New York Giants.
In addition to his wife, son, and granddaughter, he is survived by his brother Robert D. (Susan) Dembrosky of Berwyn, PA, his brother in law J. Michael (Jeanette) Kelly of Rensselaer, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Friday, from 4-7 p.m. His funeral mass will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church in Latham. Following cremation, his ashes will be entombed in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
Mick's wishes would be to help local organizations which support the community. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Ambrose Food Pantry, 347 Old Loudon Rd., Latham, N.Y. 12110 or Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, N.Y. 12204.

Knew "The Mick" from CCHS, CYO B-ball, Siena(accounting majors), ROTC, and intramural sports. We played 4 years of Foot, base and basketball together on our team " The Zorbas Boys (ZBs)". Our team was unique blend of personalities and strengths. Mickey was our "Humor"; always kept us laughing, or at the least smiling; and never let us get down. Truly was a gift to us, his family and the world. Anne, Mike and family: sorry, so very sorry for the loss- the absence-of this cordial, caring man.

I remember Mickey and his family members from my time at Gallagher´s in W´vliet. This was my first job back in the late 60s. Mickey, Bobby, and Carl. Great people- taught me about work and other things. Thank you.

At first, I was going to check work as the connection, but while I met Mickey through work at Doh, he quickly became a friend for a long, long time. Fantastic man, he helped me through the bureaucracy, and was always there to listen and help. He will be missed by all. My sincere condolences and prayers to you Anne and the rest of your family.

I first met Mickey at the basketball courts in Port Schuyler, near Valentine´s restaurant. Played many pickup games with him. He could shoot from anywhere. Many years later our paths crossed again when he was at DOH and I would meet with him routinely on nursing home issues. There were very few in Albany, if any, that understood the Medicaid reimbursement system for nursing homes as well as he did. Always professional and well respected. Inevitably, after our meetings we would spend a few minutes discussing the Yankees.

Mick was such a great person, one of those Port Schuyler guys I looked up to. To Anne and his family, I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you.
