Carl Jockheck Obituary

TROY Carl F. Jockheck, 96, of Troy, died Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at the James Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center. Born in Palouse, state of Washington, he was the son of Carl F. Jockheck Sr. and Lillie (Horting) Jockheck. He was raised in the lumber town of Elk River, Idaho. He graduated from the University of Idaho and later received the M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School in l938. For many years, he worked for the Internal Revenue Service, retiring in 1964 as assistant chief for the Hartford District. Carl was very active in the Baptist Church. Following World War II, as chairman and secretary of the Church World Service Committee of the Greater Hartford Council of Churches, Carl and his wife Lillian were involved in the resettlement of refugees in the Hartford area. In 1964, his church work led to his appointment as controller at Tunghai University, Taiwan for six years. Upon his return to this area, he was assistant to the dean of Schenectady County Community College for 10 years. A member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Carl served on the investment team for the American Baptist Church of New York State and served as trustee of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Carl and his wife Lillian were active in the FOCUS Food Pantry and were involved in the establishment of the Interfaith Shelter. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lillian Morrow Requa, and his sisters-in-law, Mabel Lee Dodson Requa and Evelyn Jockheck. He was the beloved uncle of Sarah Requa Guthridge (Theodore), Anne Requa Brownlow, Richard Morrow Requa (Mary), William VanNess Requa (Fran), Patricia Requa, Christopher Jockheck, Ronald Jockheck and Anita Jockheck Kallman. A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Albany, N.Y. at a later date. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless, 176 Sheridan Avenue, Albany, NY 12210 or to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 125 State Street, Albany, NY 12210.
