Christopher "Chris" Long

Long, Christopher "Chris" ALBANY Christopher "Chris" Long, 89, a longtime native of Albany, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 22, 2022. Christopher was born in Albany to the late Joseph and Alice Marnell Long and attended Vincentian High School. He proudly earned his degree at Siena College prior to his enrollment into the U.S. Army. Christopher spent the majority of his career with Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield, retiring as an assistant vice president of sales after 30 years. He was very active in the community and was a lifetime member of the Albany Elks, Knights of Columbus, Polish American Citizens Club and Albany YMCA. Throughout his career, he served on the boards of the Albany Chamber of Commerce, Sales and Marketing Club and Toastmasters International. Sports played a huge role in Christopher's life as both a participant and fan. He played baseball, basketball and football in his youth, and was well known in the Albany YMCA Handball circle. As a longtime golfer and former member of Wolfert's Roost Country Club, he was fortunate enough to earn not one, but two holes in one. A die-hard Yankee fan, he was thrilled to be cheering them on this season. He is survived by his loving daughter, Jacquelyn (David) Brayden; his cherished grandchildren, Scott and Kristen, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his dear wife of over 50 years, Josephine "Josie"; as well as his two brothers, Joseph and Stephen. Christopher and Jacquelyn would like to thank his "A-team" caregivers at the Schuyler Ridge Skilled Nursing Facility for the love and support they provided during the last several months. We could not have gone on this journey without them. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Chris's family Friday, October 28, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell Street, Albany, NY 12208. His funeral Mass will immediately follow at 10 a.m. The Rite of Committal will follow his Mass at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
