Sheehan, Colleen
WATERFORD - Colleen Johnson Sheehan, 48, loving mother of five, daughter, sister, friend, and hero, passed away peacefully, on Monday, December 9, 2024, at St. Peter's Hospital's Hospice Inn, after four years of a long hard fought, and almost superhumanly courageous battle with Colorectal Cancer. She died surrounded by her loving and faithful family; in the same building she treated patients for over 20 years.
Born in Schenectady, on June 16, 1976, daughter of Patricia "Patsy" Rinaldi Johnson and the late Richard "Rick" Johnson, she was a 1994 graduate of Mechanicville High School and later Hudson Valley Community College. She became a Registered Nurse and instantly fell in love with her job, proud to provide care to so many in need. She started her career at St. Peter's Hospital, working in 6 Brady, and ended it at Eddy Visiting Nurses, Troy office.
Colleen's main focus was her children, grandson, and family. She cherished the time she spent with them, whether it was around the home, at parties, on vacation, or at the many academic and athletic sporting events of theirs through the years. She also enjoyed crafting, reading, painting ceramics, trips to the ocean, especially Wildwood, and also the many lighthouses she visited throughout the years. She also loved the company of her German Shepherd "Cacey."
Survivors include her children, Alyssa, Dana, Logan, Emma, and Kody Sheehan; her beloved grandson, Maxton Sheehan; siblings, Richard Johnson, Keith (Jen) Johnson, Graig (Lori) Johnson, and Tricia (Mike) Pendergast. Also her loving nieces and nephews, Gabe, Brie, Dylan, Hailey, Andrew, Tyler, Mason, and McKenzie; as well as her large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, friends, and coworkers.
Her "Colleen Strong" community will always be remembered for the extra support, care, and motivation to continue fighting over the past four years, and although it may seem like she didn't win, she definitely didn't lose. She and her family received some of the most uplifting hope and love on their journey. The care provided by the St. Peter's Hospital staff and hospice, the multitudes of family, friends, neighbors, her children's Waterford-Halfmoon School District and others who advocated not only for her but for her family, will never be forgotten.
Colleen's wish was that those attending her service honor her memory by wearing blue, for the fight against Colon Cancer, or the color that represents the fight that is significant in their life.
Calling Hours will be held at All Saints on the Hudson (St. Paul's) Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville, from 3-7 p.m., on Friday, December 13. Please enter through the side door of the church. At the conclusion of the evening, starting at 7 p.m., there will be a service by the Nurse Honor Guard, and then some brief words for those in attendance. Colleen's strongest wish was to defeat this terrible disease. As she would want (or demand!), her family is strongly suggesting that instead of flowers, a donation be made to something so near and dear to her heart, the Michael P. Brown Colon Cancer Foundation, PO Box 575, Metamora, Ill. 61548 or at
run4michael.com/donate/ in loving memory of Colleen M. Sheehan.
