NORTHVILLE - Daniel Jack Mead passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at home.
Born at home in Northville, N.Y., on August 30, 1942, Danny was the son of Clark C. and Irene Rulison Mead. A graduate of Northville Central High School, he was employed by the State of New York, Department of Motor Vehicles in Albany for 34 years, retiring in 1996. He attended the Baptist Church of Northville.
Danny was a member of the General Society of the War of 1812 and the Saratoga Battle Chapter, Sons' of the American Revolution. He was a member of the Society of Descendants of General George Washington's Army at Valley Forge, being a third great-grandson of Sergeant Francis Courtney, who served under Gen. Washington, at Valley Forge, during the winter of 1777-1778. He also was a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, being a direct descendant, (11th generation), of Pilgrim George Soule, 35th signer of the Mayflower Compact, and sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War. Danny served as the Town Historian for Benson for many years.
He was a member of the American Poultry Association for many years, raising Buff Cochin batons that he exhibited at many county and State Fairs. He was also a member of the Mayfield Grange.
He is survived by his sister, Marlene E. Gentile of N.H.; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his siblings, Nancy Kaplowitz-Karp, Wilma L. Mead, Clark Jr. (Kay) Mead and David T. Mead. He was also predeceased by his partner and best friend for 51 years, Jimmy Dorney.
A graveside service for family and friends to attend will be held in the spring, at the convenience of the family, in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville.
