Darrell Burns Obituary

Burns, Darrell
LOUDONVILLE - Darrell Leo Burns, 88, passed away peacefully September 6, 2025, at Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Albany on May 31, 1937, to Helen Kiley and Leo Michael Burns, Darrell was the second of three children. He was proud to call Albany "home" his entire life.
Darrell was the loving husband of Janet Vroman Burns (d. 2010) for 48 years, and of Barbara Sullivan Burns for the past 13 years. Darrell and Barbara spent many wonderful winters in Jupiter, Fla., and summers enjoying Barbara's family camp in Keeseville, N.Y.
Darrell had two adoring daughters, Kerry Anne (d. 1975) and Colleen Mary (Hugh Simons) Burns, of Boston, Mass. Darrell's most cherished role was that of grandfather to Kerry Grace, and Seamus Kiley (Olivia Clark) Matlack, who talked to their grandfather by phone almost every day. Darrell was welcomed lovingly into Barbara's family of six children, Jack (Gina), Kate (d. 2014), Megan, Matthew, James (Gina), and Sarah (Gianni Jacklone) Sullivan; and seven grandchildren, Sean, Nicole, Chloe, Logan, Ava, Nolan and Lana.
Darrell graduated from Christian Brothers Academy (CBA), and attended Siena College. He was an outstanding athlete and captain of three varsity sports. Throughout his life, Darrell remained an avid spectator and fan of CBA's basketball and football teams. Darrell spent his career as Administrator of Pension and Fringe Benefits at Ironworkers Local 12. He was involved in many community and civic organizations, including Knights of Columbus, Board of Trustees at Mary Villa Immaculate Nursing Home, volunteer at Ronald McDonald House, American Leukemia Society, and Shaker Road-Loudonville Fire Department. He was a communicant of St. Pius X Church for 60 years.
Darrell was predeceased by his sister, Joyce; and her husband, John Lansing; and by his brother, Michael, and his wife, Constance Burns. He is survived by his brother-in-law, John, and his wife Mary Vroman; cousin, John Pleat; nieces and nephews: John (Teri) Lansing Jr, Daryl Lansing, Michael (Karen, d 2013) Lansing, Deborah (Chris) Corbari, Michael (Darcy) Burns, and Thomas Burns. He is survived by many loved great nieces and nephews.
