Diana Tompkins Obituary

Tompkins, Diana ALBANY Diana Carofano Tompkins, 79, died Friday, August 27, 2010 at Albany Memorial Hospital. Born June 4, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Clement and Sophia Fritz Carofano. She was a graduate of Watervliet High School. She was retired from the NYS Dept. of Fleet Management. Diana and her husband Harry loved NASCAR racing. They went to the Daytona 500 every year for many years with their dear friends Tom and Donna. Diana was an avid fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. They traveled extensively around the country and abroad. They loved visiting their children and grandchildren. She was a very generous person who loved to entertain family and friends. She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Harry E. Tompkins; her daughter, Patricia Hamilton Solum of Austin, Texas; two sons, John Tompkins of Tucson, Ariz. and James Tompkins of Richmond Hill, Ga.; grandchildren, Tara, Marshall, Brian, Sophia, Christopher, Jennifer, Gary and Dale; great-grandsons, Charlie and Anthony; her sisters, Patricia Corona of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Joan McBain of Maplewood; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Jean Tompkins of Wilton. She will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Loudonville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to diabetes research would be appreciated via the American Diabetes Association, 2 Pine West Plaza, Albany, NY 12205 or www.diabetes.org/.
