Eric R. "Bub" Smith

Smith, Eric R. "Bub" TROY Eric R. "Bub" Smith, 37 of Troy, entered into eternal life on Monday, March 15, 2021, at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in Troy, he was the son of Eric and Deborah Smith; and the beloved husband and best friend of 17 years to Shannon Smith. Bub was a graduate of SUNY Albany. He began a career in law enforcement with the Troy Police Department. Throughout his 12 years of service he moved through the ranks to become a decorated sergeant detective. Serving and giving back to his community began with his career as a volunteer fireman with Mountain View Fire Dept. where he served beside his father. Bub had many passions and hobbies, he was known best for his woodworking skills and craftsmanship. His greatest joy in life was spending time with family and friends. Bub had the ability to touch everyone he met. He could make anyone laugh, smile, and feel special. Bub had one true love in his life and that was his wife Shannon. They met in 2004 and instantly fell in love. The love he had for his wife was untouchable. That same love carried over to his three beautiful children who he adored and cherished more than anything in the world. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife and parents include his loving children, Raegan, Harrison and Vail; sister, Amy (James) Magur; maternal grandmother Patricia Cunningham; father-in-law, Mark Carey; brothers-in-law, Robert and Eric Carey; and nieces, Piper Magur (goddaughter), Stella Magur and Karissa Carey. He was predeceased by his beloved mother-in-law Colleen Carey. Eric is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, especially his uncle Dan Cunningham; and long-time friend Dave Farley; his brothers from the Troy P.D., John Keeler, Steve Barker, Lou Perfetti and Kyle Jones. Family and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 3 - 7 p.m. in St. Jude the Apostle Church, 42 Dana Ave., Wynantskill. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Jude the Apostle Church with the Very Reverend Anthony Ligato, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Troy.Due to the ongoing pandemic, facial covering and social distancing will be required for those attending.
