Cocca, Francis E.
COHOES - Francis E. Cocca, 74, passed peacefully from this life on January 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Troy, N.Y., to his loving parents Francis A. and Theresa M. (Paterniani) Cocca, Francis was raised in Green Island, alongside his beloved brother, Eugene. From an early age, he embodied strength, loyalty, and a quiet determination that would define his life. A proud graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy, Francis was a standout athlete, an All-American on both offense and defense for the football team. His passion for the game continued at the University of Connecticut, where he played at the collegiate level. After college, Francis embraced the open road, traveling across the United States and immersing himself in the natural beauty of the country. He summited Mt. Rainier in Washington State, explored the rugged majesty of the Grand Tetons, and wandered through countless National Parks, each journey a testament to his adventurous spirit. Professionally, Francis worked in construction in Florida and Utah before returning home to the Capital Region. He held positions with the Ford Motor Company in Green Island and several local businesses, always bringing a strong work ethic and a craftsman's pride in every job. A true Renaissance man, Francis was a motorcycle enthusiast, a gifted gardener, and a masterful handyman who could fix just about anything. He cherished time spent with family and friends and was a proud member of the Italian Fraternal Society in Green Island. He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia (Gilligan) Cocca; his brother and lifelong friend, Eugene (Cynthia) Cocca; his cherished niece and nephew, Pamela (Timothy) Neenan and Phillip Cocca; and his adored grandnieces and nephew, Tucker, Amelia, Sarah, and Emma Neenan. He is also lovingly remembered by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael (Debbie) Gilligan, Tim (Diane) Gilligan, Dennis (Therese) Gilligan, and Bill (Jamie) Gilligan. Francis's warmth, wit, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Peter's Hospital and the Community Hospice for their exceptional care and support.
