Henry Reimer Obituary

Reimer, Henry G.
VALATIE - Henry Gustav "Hank" Reimer, 90, of Valatie, N.Y., passed away on February 24, 2025, in his home. Hank was born in Jamaica, Queens, to Gustav and Bertha (Becker) Reimer on October 10, 1934. He attended Andrew Jackson High School and graduated in 1951. Upon graduation, Hank enlisted in the Air Force. In 1952, he started working for Western Electric as a lineman and later as an installer, while also working as a part-time deputy sheriff for the Duchess County Sheriff. On September 10, 1962, he began his dream job as a Trooper with the New York State Police. Over the course of his 24-year career with the state police, Hank advanced through the ranks as an Investigator, Senior Investigator and Technical Lieutenant, and received a Superintendent's Commendation. After his retirement, he served two terms as the Town Justice for Union Vale in Dutchess county and also was employed as the Deputy Sergeant-at-Arms of the State Senate until 2019. He enjoyed target shooting, bicycling, motorcycling, downhill skiing, the outdoors and wine, and was a volunteer firefighter with the Union Vale Fire Department, and was an Emergency Medical Technician with the Union Vale Ambulance Corps, a member of the State Magistrates Association and a member of the Retired Troopers Association. Hank is survived by his wife, Rose Reimer of Valatie; his son, Russell Reimer of Voorheesville; his granddaughter, Nicole Reimer (Brian McArdle) of Albany; his stepsons, Richard (Darla) Skiermont, Michael (Elizabeth) Skiermont; and his nephews, Kevin (Cheryl) Brazee of New Franken, Wisc., and Glen (Walky) Aleksis of Garden City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Bertha Reimer; his sisters, Elizabeth Aleksis and Jane Brazee; and daughter-in-law, Natalie Reimer. A memorial service will be held for Hank at Hope Chapel, 14 Country Ln., East Greenbush, on March 15, 2025, at 11 a.m.
