LIVERPOOL, Pa. - Rev. Hugo W. Schroeder, Jr., 87, of Liverpool, journeyed to be with his Lord and Saviour on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at home with his loving family by his side.
Rev. Schroeder was born on May 24, 1937, in York, Pa., a son of the late Hugo W. and Florence (Smith) Schroeder, Sr. On December 25, 1959, he married his loving bride, Evelyn (Stough) Schroeder. They shared over 64 plus years of marriage.
He graduated from City College of Baltimore High School and Gettysburg College and earned a Bachelor of Divinity from Gettysburg Seminary.
Rev. Schroeder served as Pastor of Bittinger Lutheran Parrish, Trinity Lutheran Church (Asst. Pastor), Bethany Lutheran Church, Messiah Lutheran Church, St. Matthews Lutheran Church (Bloomsburg), St. John's Lutheran Church (Albany, N.Y.), St. Matthews Lutheran Church (Centerville), and retired from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Middlecreek.
Rev. Schroeder was an ardent backpacker. A hobby that was near and dear to him.
Rev. Schroeder is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn; son, Hugo W. Schroeder, III; daughter, Sue Pennay and her husband Jeff; grandchildren, Emiline Lyell and her husband Matthew, Hugo W. Schroeder, IV, Doraleen Schroeder, Martin Schroeder, Alex Pennay, Curtis Pennay and his companion Hannah Doll, and Sarah Pennay; great-grandchildren, Hudson Lyell and Reuben Lyell; siblings, Martin Schroeder and his wife Janet and Clara (Beebe) James; brother-in-law, John Geldmacher; numerous nieces and nephews; and his furbaby, Becky.
He was preceded in passing by his parents, Hugo and Florence; siblings, Carl Schroeder and his wife Jane and Karla Geldmacher; and brother-in-law, Charles James.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 606 N. Front Street, Liverpool, Pa. 17045. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Sharon Lutheran Church, 120 S. Market Street, Selinsgrove, Pa. 17870.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in loving memory of Rev. Schroeder may be made to your local Salvation Army.
