James J. McGuire

McGuire, James J. SCHENECTADY James "Poppy" McGuire,70, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at his home with his family by his side. Jim was born in Albany to the late James and Marion (Laraway) McGuire. He was the owner and operator of Tri-Towne Builders in Schenectady. Jim loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and hiking and playing cards. He was also an avid NY Yankee and NY Giants Fan. In addition to his parents Jim was predeceased by his sisters, Barbara E. (David) Carroll and Elizabeth P. (William) Halpin. Jim is survived by his wife of over 48 years, his soulmate and best friend, Judy (Bates) McGuire; he is the cherished father of Ken Carpenter of Clifton Park, Cindy Farrar of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Dan (Dina) McGuire of Schenectady, Darlene Pearce of Glenville and Scott McGuire of Scotia. He is the adored grandfather of nine, and great-grandfather of two. He is also survived by his sisters, Judy Ganoe of Conn., Kathy (Alan) Skorupski of West Sand Lake; his brothers, John P. (Linda) McGuire of Altamont, Richard M. McGuire of Gansevoort and Thomas M. (Sharon) McGuire of Guilderland; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the entire staff with Schenectady County Hospice and to Kim Milo for all of the care and kindness given to Jim. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will precede the service from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
