BROOKLYN, N.Y. Rev. James David Steele, 60, died Wednesday, December 25, 2002 at his home in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was the son of John B. Steele and the late Mary Kawola Steele. Father Steele is survived by his sisters, Marie T. Callahan and her husband John Callahan of Stillwater, Elizabeth A. Terlecky and her husband, Dr. Wasyl Terlecky of Dayton, Ohio; his brothers, John D. Steele and his wife, Bernadette of Charlton, Joseph D. Steele and his wife Regina of Stillwater and Jerome D. Steele and his wife Kathleen of Clifton Park. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, John Steele, Maria Steele Mattrazzo, Matthew Steele, Joseph Steele, Christie Steele, Michael Steele, Jason Steele, Martin Callahan, Mary Callahan Cozzi, Stephen Callahan, Janet Callahan, Kateri Callahan Perkins, Justin Callahan, Monica Callahan, John Callahan, Anna Terlecky, Wasyl Terlecky, Andrew Terlecky, J. Steele and Alexandra Steele as well as eight grandnieces and nephews. Father Steele graduated from St. Basils College in Stamford, Conn. and continued his theological training at Catholic University in Washington D.C. He was ordained a Ukrainian Catholic Priest on December 8, 1967. Father Steele served in parishes in Conn., Mass., and N.Y. During his tenure as pastor in Auburn, N.Y., he also served as fire chaplain. In recent years, Father Steele taught school at St. Catherine of Alexandria, Public School 7 and Public School 214 in Brooklyn. Most recently, he worked for Old Navy in Manhattan while establishing Start With Today, a ministry serving people with life threatening illnesses. Throughout his life, Father Steel lived the life of Christ supporting and giving comfort to everyone he met. He touched the lives of many, was a friends to all and now is at peace with God. The funeral for Father Steele will be on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at 9:00 a.m. from Parker Brothers Funeral Home, Broadway, Watervliet and at 10:00 a.m. from St. Peters Church in Stillwater. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may all at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery in Maplewood. A memorial service will be held at Holy Family Parish, 205 14th Street, Brooklyn, N.Y. on Saturday, January 18, 2003, 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Catholic Charities of the Albany Diocese, 40 North Main Ave., Albany, N.Y. 12203 would be greatly appreciated.
