Janet Matthews Obituary

Matthews, Janet NOKOMIS, Fla. Janet "Jan" Blasdell Matthews, age 76, of Nokomis, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013 in Venice, Fla. She was born May 6, 1936 in Fort Ann, N.Y., the daughter of the late Elmer Jay and Gertrude (Needham) Blasdell. A graduate of Fort Ann High School, class of 1953, she attended Albany Business College, graduating in 1955 with an associates degree. It was here she met the love of her life, her future husband Ted. Jan was a loving, stay at home mom during the years that her children were young. Later, she worked as an executive secretary for the NYS Department of Labor in Albany, and retired after many years of service. Jan lived in Clifton Park from 1973 to 1998 and was a communicant of St. Edward the Confessor Church. She loved the beach and lived the past 15 years in Nokomis, returning each summer to her second home in Brant Lake, where she shared very special times with her family. Jan enjoyed spending time with friends, playing dominos, cards or going out to dinner. She loved her books, puzzles, crosswords and suduko. Her greatest joy was having her large and loving family together for a holiday, special event or even an evening meal. Jan was loved by many and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Theodore "Ted" Joseph Matthews II; children, Terri (Joseph) Leputa of Dayton, Ohio, Theodore (Ann) Matthews III of Nokomis, Joan (Chad) Finck of Clifton Park, Paul (Chrissy) Matthews of Clifton Park, Mark (Tammy) Matthews of Ballston Spa, Jay (Tiffany) Matthews of Albany, Carolyn (Bob) Renzi of Clifton Park, and Nancy (Rich) Buehler of Clifton Park; 20 grandchildren; six great-granchildren; and sister, Joan (Jim) Murphy of Warrensburg. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Gertrude (Needham) Blasdell and brothers, Corliss, Walter, and Arthur. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Patrick Butler on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 9 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Road, Clifton Park. Relatives and friends are welcomed to attend the calling hours on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the chapel in St. Edward's Church. Interment will be held immediately following the Mass in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rensselaer. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, [email protected]., 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

We were lucky to have called Jan (and Ted) our friends for 16 years in Lake Village. We visited them at their camp in New York and became familiar with Clifton Park.
We will never be able to find truer friends and will miss Jan terribly. Ted, we are praying that you will come back to Florida and we will see our good friend again. We know that Jan is probably sitting on Mother Theresa's lap next to God....Love you all, Dottie and Bill
