Jasmine Tice Obituary

Tice, Jasmine Frenette
ALBANY - Much beloved Jasmine Frenette Tice, 42, of Albany, died unexpectedly on January 18, at Albany Medical Hospital.
She loved books, rain, rainbows, sunsets, trees, her many friends, her family, sparkly lights, photography, music and art. She was generous and kind to friends and strangers. She loved giving people gifts and took great joy in that.
Jasmine is survived and grievously missed by her mother, Liza Frenette, of Albany; her mother's partner and Jasmine's friend and ally, Matt Ryan; and her cherished dog, Topaz. She is survived by a host of friends from all walks of life.
Her family includes her much loved grandfather, James Frenette; her predeceased grandmother, Susanne Hull Frenette; Frenette aunts, Martha, Sarah and Margaret; Frenette uncles, James, Robert, Michael, Peter and Eddie; Tice aunts, Mary and Cathy. She deeply loved and mourned the earlier loss of her uncles, Stephen and David Tice.
Her most special aunties were Lori Martin, Rosie Guidice, Karen Dunn and Diane Cyr, who supported her and loved her, and built many great memories with her.
Jasmine was born in Phoenix, Ariz. - a desert baby, as we called her. She grew up in Saranac Lake, N.Y., where she learned to swim, hike, ski, skate, camp and read, which led to a lifelong love of literature. She lived a year in Norwalk, Conn., and has lived in Albany since age eight. She enjoyed hiking with her mom at Thacher State Park, ice skating at Swinburne Park, sledding, summer camps, and numerous trips to the Adirondacks and Cape Cod. She traveled several times to Fla., once to Virginia Beach, and once to Las Vegas. One of her favorite adventures was a trip to Darien Lake and Niagara Falls with her mom and Lori, Kelly and Katie Martin; and also at the Ramada Hotel in Albany, where all of them had to stay for three nights during a blizzard while attempting to move into a new apartment.
In high school, Jasmine took part in theater productions, art lessons, and horseback riding. She earned an A.A.S. degree from Hudson Valley Community College, and later studied at the College of St. Rose, where she was on the Dean's list. She worked in retail and in waitressing.
She was incredibly creative with collage, and family and friends treasured her black and white drawings that artfully featured their names.
Jasmine lovingly cared for and had fun with her two previous dogs, Ming and Simon, and as a youngster, she petted and sang to her ill hamster all night as it passed away. When we buried it, she played TAPS on the flute for it on a snowy hillside.
Jasmine loved the band "The Deadbeats" and loved to stay up late. She was very talkative and spirited. She was feisty. She was beyond generous to those struggling, spending hours and hours listening to friends, helping them, and sharing food and belongings with homeless people. No one was beneath her. She made an impact on an incredible amount of people and helped out, even while experiencing difficult times herself. She survived harm and hardships, and although it marked her, she loved sharing her light, her jokes, her stories and her music.
She prayed often for friends and family in need.
Donations may be made in her name to the Guilderland Food Pantry, 518-930-1001.
Services will be at Hans Funeral Home in Albany on Wednesday, January 24. Wake is from 10-1; a memorial service will follow at the same location from 1-2:30, with sharing from friends and family. A burial procession will follow to Fairview Cemetery in Altamont.
Jasmine, we will always keep a light on for you. Candle.

I will forever cherish the friendship Jaz and I had. Things she would say to me, little life lessons she would share, fun wild ideas she would have that would make us belly laugh, her amazing skills at claw machines, Fiona Apple concert, so many shows from the Q, Valentines, Winners, heavy metal to jam bands, snagging back stage wrist bands every single show, we would sing on road trips from the top of our lungs to faves like Brand new key (the singer Melanie passed 5 days after Jaz did, I hope she finds her up there to sing her version of it) . We had just countless super special memories.
I have a message still on my voicemail, I hear her words and feel like I can just respond right back to her, as if she is right there but just out of reach.
Jasmine was just one of those super kind smart spirited people that can make fun wherever she went, made the best out of whatever situation she was in whether good or bad. She would always leave me with a gift of some sort each and every visit.
She just knew and felt things so deeply and believed in standing up for others and would give the shirt off her back to help.
I will miss you forever Jaz.
Thank you Liza for sharing her with me. I am so deeply sorry for the loss you are feeling. I am sure her spirit will be close by to lift you up and reassure you when you need it most. Sending so much love and light,
Marcy

We went to high school together but bonded a decade later over our shared fondness for Fiona Apple. Jasmine´s words of encouragement that long ago always stayed w/me, were always there for me to lean on when I´d doubt myself. She is a kind, lovely, amazing soul and she´ll live on in all the people who cared for her.

Dear Liza and family,

I did not know Jasmine personally but knew of her through Karen Dunn. I know what a great person she was. Karen would speak of her all the time.
Please accept my deepest sympathy and know that she now is an angel and will always be with you.

Often when people say someone was "fearless," they are describing a recklessness or adventurous spirit of someone who does the most wild things. I remember, long ago, sitting out on the GCHS field with Jasmine in a raucous thunderstorm. Lightning everywhere. Unpredictable. The anxiety I experienced was urging me back indoors. But, she was so... calm. That's the kind of fearless she was. Calm. Comforting. She had that energy about her her whole life. She was the one you could look to when you needed to know things would be okay.
