John Egan Obituary

Egan, John J. "Jack" COLONIE John J. "Jack" Egan, 79, peacefully passed into eternal life on Monday, December 20, 2021, at home. A lifelong area resident, he was the son of Agnes (Egan) Fournier and Albert Fournier. Raised in North Albany, Jack was proud of his Irish roots. He was blessed with a great singing voice and a wonderful sense of humor. Jack was generous with his time and talents and always put others first. After graduating from Cardinal McCloskey High School, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves, serving as a medical corpsman with the 364th General Hospital. He was employed by several paper companies before joining Key Bank as a senior buyer in the Purchasing Department. In retirement, Jack became a tutor for Literacy Volunteers, and offered his time and service to the Regional Food Bank and the Roarke Center in Troy. He was an associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Residing at Shaker Pointe since 2011, he led monthly prayer services, called Bingo and had served on the Resident Council. A longtime active parishioner of over 55 years at St. Pius X Church, Jack served three terms as parish council president, was chair of Prayer and Worship for nearly thirty years, served in the Sacramental Preparation Programs for baptism, confirmation and marriage, and was a lector and eucharistic minister. Jack was an excellent cook and enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland, England and Germany. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carole; his beloved children: daughter Kathy and her husband, Larry Witkowski, and son, Brian Egan; and his three treasured grandchildren, Brendan Carroll, Ashlynn Carroll and Evan Witkowski. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry Fournier (Peggy), Jim Fournier (Dolores), and Bob Fournier (Cathy); his sister, Mary (Brian) Lord; his aunts, Ann and Joan Egan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, especially Jan Precopia, who was like a sister to him. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jack's family on Sunday, December 26, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany. Dear Carole, I was heartbroken to hear Jack passed away. He was such a kind and devoted man, the world was a better place because of him. I know you both were friends with my parents, before Jack started praying & offering communion to my mom every Monday. He was such a good friend to Mary. His help was unwavering, may he rest in peace.

To the Egan family,
I volunteered at the Roarke Center at the same time as Jack. It was always fun when he greeted me at the door. We joked a bit and usually discussed whatever he was reading. Alexander Hamilton was one of our memorable topics. Please accept my sincere sympathy on the loss of this kind man.

Jackie was a saint and the world is a better place because he lived. Jackie & the Kapsaroff brothers grew up together on Genesee Street in North Albany. He was known to be one of the most caring and honest people in our neighborhood. Sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones from George and John Kapsaroff. Rest in peace Jackie.
