EAST GREENBUSH - Leslie G. Ryan, affectionately known as "Les," 89, passed away peacefully at home on August 23, 2025. Known for his discipline, dry wit, and a golf swing that could stop time, Les left this world much like he lived in it - on his own terms, and with style.
Born June 5, 1936, Les was a longtime fixture at Albany Municipal Golf Course (now Capital Hills), where he competed with quiet intensity and grace. But his greatest legacy was the 48-year partnership he built with the love of his life, Kevin B. Brannock. Together, they created a chosen family defined by trust, respect, and deep love.
He is survived by his sister, Delores Whitten; and several nieces and nephews, as well as, Barbara Brannock-Gilchrist, Mary Hamilton, Eric Bartholmew, and Christopher Lownsbury - each a treasured part of Les' inner circle. He also leaves behind his cherished Alexis Diner family, his daily crew of booth-side philosophers and friends.
Les never made a fuss about goodbyes. He slipped away quietly, rejoining his parents, siblings, and many unforgettable souls who went before him.
In one final act of generosity, he donated his body to Albany Medical College's Anatomical Gift Program - because helping others just made sense to him.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Justin Maroney, the fourth floor team at Capital Cardiology, St. Peter's Palliative Care, and The Community Hospice for their extraordinary care.
