Lillian Jockheck Obituary

LOUDONVILLE Lillian White Requa Jockheck, 92, a resident of the Loudonville Home for Adults, died Tuesday, October 24, 2006. Born in Southington, Conn., she was the daughter of the Reverend Leonard F. Requa and Carrie Lillian (Morrow) Requa. Lillian was raised in Southington, New York City and Schodack Landing, N.Y. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mount Holyoke College in 1936. For many years, Lillian and her late husband Carl lived in Hartford, Conn., where Lillian was secretary to the director of the Institute of Church and Community of the Hartford Seminary Foundation. Following World War II, as secretary and chairman of the Church World Service Committee of the Greater Hartford Council of Churches, Lillian and her husband Carl were involved in the resettlement of refugees in the Hartford area. In 1964, their church work sent the Jockhecks to Tunghai University, Taiwan for six years, where Lillian served as executive secretary to the president. As members of of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Albany, N.Y., Lillian and Carl were active in the FOCUS Food Pantry and were involved in the establishment of the Interfaith Shelter. Lillian is survived by her sisters-in-law, Mabel Lee Dodson Requa and Evelyn Jockheck. She was the beloved aunt of Sarah Requa Guthridge (Theodore), Anne Requa Brownlow, Richard Morrow Requa (Mary), William VanNess Requa (Fran), Patricia Requa, Christopher Jockheck, Ronald Jockheck and Anita Jockheck Kallman. She is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews including namesakes, Lillian Sarah Gould and Jason Jockheck Brownlow. Services to be determined at a later date. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless, 176 Sheridan Avenue, Albany, NY 12210 or to Emmanuel Baptist Church, 125 State Street, Albany, NY 12210.
