Marion Albert Obituary

Albert, Marion A. NORTH GREENBUSH Marion A. "Meem" (Hoffman) Albert, 83, died Monday, May 7, 2007 at Samaritan hospital after a long illness. Born in Defreestville in the family home to the late Ada M. Greene and Sherrel R. Hoffman. She lived in the North Greenbush her whole life. Meem was a 1939 graduate of Van Rensselaer Jr. High where she was a member of the Peggy Club, later attending East Greenbush Schools and graduated in 1943 from Columbia High School. She served on all high school reunions and was a chairperson on five of these reunions. Marion was a homemaker and an excellent cook and baker; her hobbies were crafts, collecting cookbooks, family genealogy, cake decorating, entertaining, sewing, embroidery, search a word puzzles and flower arranging. Meem was a charter and life member of Defreestville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as president, vice president, secretary, captain and historian and, in 2000, was honored for 50 years of active service by the fire department and the ladies auxiliary. She was a member of Rensselaer County Fire Auxiliary, NYS Fire Auxiliary, Rensselaer Seniors Citizens, First Church of Albany, a charter member of its Kate Allard group, past president of Willing Worker of First Church. Meem received commendations from the town of North Greenbush, the Rensselaer County Legislature and Assemblyman Ronald Canestrari and the New York State Assembly. Marion's family would like to thank all the staff at the Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home especially B3 & C1 for their care during Meem's stay also the 5th floor at Samaritan hospital. In addition to her parents Marion was predeceased by her brother, Robert (Anne) Hoffman Sr.; brother-in-law, Edward Stehr; and great-nephew, Michael Thomas Horowitz. Survivors include her loving husband and best friend Robert J. "Chooch" Albert, whom she married June 5 1946 in the First Church in Albany; sister, Ada Stehr of North Greenbush; two loving nephews, Robert S. (Nancy) Hoffman Jr. of Medford, Ore. and Jeffrey E. (Beth) Stehr of Loudonville; niece and godchild, Susan C. Doran of East Greenbush; caring great-aunt of Lisa Ann (Thomas) Dobson, Nicole Marie Owen, Alyssa Lee (Randy) Evanchick; great-great-aunt of Nicholas and Megan Dobson, Christina Owen and Samantha Evenchick; dear friend of Doris Coppola, Marie Mohan and Mary LaPoint. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Friday 11:00 from the Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer. Interment will be in Bloomingrove Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Albert Scholarship Fund of the Defreestville Fire Dept., 480 North Greenbush Rd., Defreestville, NY 12144.
