Matthew Breslin Obituary

Breslin, Matthew M. Sr. LAKE PLACID, Fla. Matthew M. Breslin, Sr., age 67, peacefully passed away surrounded by his four loving children at The Somers Hospice House in Sebring, Fla. on Father's Day, June 20, 2021. Matthew, the son of the late Matthew F. and Elizabeth Breslin, was born February 3, 1954, in Troy. In addition to his mother and father, Matthew was predeceased by his loving wife, Donna J. Breslin, who passed away on May 6, 2021; and his sister, Barbara Breslin. He is survived by his four children, Christie (Thomas) Gebauer, Amy (Rich) Cassino, Tracy Breslin (Chuck Seney), and Matthew (Kathleen) Breslin Jr.; the mother of their four children, Patricia Kasarjian; his grandchildren, Madison Sano, Naliyah Breslin, Collin and Ian Gebauer, Lucas and Logan Breslin; his sisters, Carol (Raymond) Walsh and Joan (Dave) Galkiewicz; Goddaughter/niece, Darlene Calhoun; and several other nieces and nephews. He attended St. Brigid's Grade School and Keveny Memorial Academy High School. He started his long career as a butcher at the A&P Meat Market as an apprentice and then worked for the Grand Union Company as a butcher and meat manager. Upon retiring, Matt fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning a bar, becoming the proprietor of Breslin's Burgh Tavern in Troy. He was involved with his son's sports, and coached several baseball and basketball teams over the years. He was a lifelong member and past exalted ruler of the Watervliet Elks Club. He loved fishing, traveling, cooking and spending time with his loved ones. He was a loving father and loyal friend to everyone who knew him. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Matt enjoyed volunteering. He was a staunch advocate for Veterans, and led the effort to build the Rensselaer County Vietnam Memorial in Troy. In Matt's high school yearbook, his future goal of living in Florida was fulfilled in 2015. He settled down in Lake Placid, Fla., where he enjoyed daily morning coffee and chats with his friends, who he affectionally referred to as "The Girls," and also eating lunch at his favorite place, Sammy's N.Y. Pizza. He especially looked forward to his morning cigar with his friend Tom. Matt was always there for his neighbors, and they were there for him too. Matt's family would like to express their deep gratitude to Marsha, J.R, Val and Tom, who Matt considered family. Calling hours will be held at the Watervliet Elks, on 4th Avenue, in Watervliet on Thursday, July 1, from 4-7 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 2, at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands for both Matt and Donna. The family would also like to thank the loving and caring staff of The Somers Hospice House for their compassionate care of Matt during his stay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Somers Hospice House in Sebring, Florida at https://www.chaptershealth.org/for-volunteers-donors/ or the Wounded Warrior Project https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/default.aspx?tsid=10043.

To Carol & Ray and Joan & Dave. I didn't know of Matt's passing until Sunday the 4th. Matt was a good friend we had so many good times together I haven't seen him in a long time I do remember the last time was in the bar he had. It's hard to lose friends even ones we haven't seen in a long time. My thoughts and prayers to you all.

If you didn't get to meet or know him you missed out. He was one of the best ones. He was genuine, strong, honest, Fun & funny, ready to help or lead the way. He was always thinking of helping others. He always let you know how he felt good bad or indifferent . He was good people and he believed in good people. He was a man of his word and he stuck to it and if you was talking to him he made sure that you was a man of your word as well. I didn't get to know him as long as I like to would have but what I did know the world could use a lot more people like him. He will sorely be missed as well as his wife will be missed they were good people and the world lost when they lost them. I know they're together again healthy and happy and enjoying being with one another. I sure will miss them just like so many others will miss them as well. We loved him and Donna as family we will sure miss them hell they were our family . It was a great loss and all too soon wish they were here but I know they're in a better place we'll miss them always.
