Matthew Proctor Obituary

CLIFTON PARK Matthew Matt F. Proctor, 15, born September 19, 1990, peacefully passed into the next life on March 12, 2006 after fighting a courageous battle with leukemia for six years. He left this life much too soon but loved and was loved by his family and friends. Beloved son of Fred and Kimberly Craft Proctor; older brother of Christopher and Allison Proctor, both of Clifton Park. He is also survived by his grandparents, Patricia Craft of Clifton Park, Bill and Madeline Craft of Glenmont, and Fred and Loretta Proctor of Daytona Beach, Fla. and Lewis, N.Y.; Matthew is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Matt is predeceased by his great-grandmother, Marjorie Shannon. He also leaves behind man's best friend, Nelly and Mitzie. Matt was a determined and honor student in Shenendehowa School District with an infectious smile and contagious laugh. His sense of humor was strong and stayed with him throughout his life. Matt received a special award sponsored by Attorney General Elliot Spitzer during 8th grade graduation celebration on June 17, 2005. Despite a six year battle with his illness, he set his goals high and was determined to be the Valedictorian of his graduating class of 2009. Matt was the valedictorian of Life and he was surrounded by love from family and friends. His passion for life was only out done by his love of Legos, drums, video games, and the NY Yankees. In July of 2005, the Marty Lyons Foundation provided him with a trip to N.Y. and a visit with the NY Yankees. Matt had the opportunity to meet his favorite player, Derek Jeter in the Yankee dugout. Matt's family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Jennifer Clark, pediatric oncologist, who is a consummate professional and a much-loved friend to Matt and the family. Also to the entire staff at Boston Children's Hospital. Much appreciation for the loving friends that helped the entire family throughout this arduous experience. Also to the Make-A-Wish Foundation who provided the family with a memorable trip to Lego Land in San Diego, Calif. and the Marty Lyons Foundation who arranged for Matt's last trip to Yankee Stadium. Funeral will be held Friday morning at 9:30 from St Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 in Clifton Park. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Waterford, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship fund set up in Matt's memory. Donations may be made at any Trustco Bank branch in the name of the Matthew Proctor Scholarship Fund.

Every single day I am reminded of the things Matt taught me. He taught me to be humble and thankful for the small things in life. He taugh me that looks are never the most important thing we deal with. He helped me to remember to look for the good in people because the bad is always standing out but the good is sometimes harder to see. He touched me in ways no other humam being ever will. I too miss you and will be forever greatful for having been part of your life.

Where to start? Matt was one of the brightest kids I ever knew. We've had such great times since we were young kids. I remember going to Great Escape with all you guys when we were just little peanuts. He was a funny kid, too! Last summer everyone was in Aunt Loretta & Uncle Fred's camp watching NASCAR and Matt and I didn't even care about the race, all we cared about was the racers drinking the milk.

My family and I love spending time with all of you up North.

Matt, I will miss you everyday.

Your cousin, Kristie.

To the entire family,

Living next door (while Allison is running away from bees), getting together with friends for dinner, meeting at the bus stop, going out at night for a few cocktails, playing cards, knowing Charlie...(the list goes on). We've all have become closer to each other, just like a family. As I read all these wonderful entries, it's becoming harder to see what I'm reading. My eyes are flooding my keyboard. Many of lives have been touched by a person known to me as 'The Little Man'. As time goes on, we will all continue with our daily routine, but the memories will always remain within us. This 'Little Man' has touched all of us. Just like a family member does.

On behave of the Bonneau Family, our hearts are filled with sorrow and our prayers are with you and your family.

To The Proctor Family-

I've had so many good memories with Matt. There was never a time where I didn't have a smile on or I wasn't laughing whenever I was around Matt.He was a great friend and has a beautiful soul. He will be missed deeply by everyone he surrounded his love with, and he'll remain with us forever. My prayers and thoughts go out to you.

Kim, Fred, Chris & Allie,

I have not known you for a long time but in the last year that I have I have seen so much love, strength and courage from you all. You are an amazing family, and I have faith that you will remain strong. You have all been through so much together, and I think that Matt has helped us all to see that we do not know what life will bring or why but that if we stick together we can get through anything. I can not imagine the pain that you must be feeling but through it all Matt would want you to know that he is with you in your hearts and souls forever. He will always be watching over you. You are in my prayers, please do not hesitate to call when you are feeling up to it. I am always here for you all. Chris, you are always welcome and you are in Zachary's heart and prayers right now too. God Bless you all, with love and prayers, Chrissy, Zachary, Alex and Connor

March 16, 2006

Until I met your son, Matt Proctor, I never realized how precious life can be.

I only knew him for 2 and a half years, but that was enough time for him to change my world.

When I met him, I didn't know he was sick. He made me cry from laughing so hard daily.

As time went on and I knew he was sick, he started to look physically worse, but that never got to him. He always could make everyone laugh whether it be by drawing a big Trogdor on the chalkboard when the teacher wasn't looking, to when he'd crack jokes from the back corner of the band room while Mr. O was lecturing us on how we need to practice more, to when he'd take pictures of us and photoshop them to the heads of body builders.

Matt was one of my closest friends. Words can't describe the positive impact he has left on all of us. I'll never forget him.

We are sorry for your loss in your life. We think and pray for Matt and your family everyday. We love and care for you very much!

A Thought

March 15, 2006

Is it possible his mission from above was to spend a little time with us, inspire and move us all with his spirit, his tenacity and his courage, and then move on to another assignment when his blessed role here was fulfilled? He did great things in his brief appearance in this life. May his new role be to continue to guide the rest of us, and to help us achieve the peace and serenity he has found.

Beth Crowley

March 15, 2006

I just wanted to take a moment to extend my sympathy to Matt's many family and friends. I know of Matt through stories that Janet Irwin has been sharing with myself and our forum friends over the years. Although we joined our hearts and thoughts in prayer for him many times, we also looked to him as a great teacher. Janet's stories of Matt's strength and courage encouraged us all to remember to give each day our best, and face whatever comes our way. He has touched more lives than you may have realized!
