Flaherty, Michael P. SPEIGLETOWN Michael P. Flaherty, 60, died peacefully at his home, in the care of and surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, November 6, 2016. Born and raised in Lansingburgh, son of the late David and Catherine Totter Flaherty, he has resided in Speigletown for many years. Mike served his Country in the U.S. Army in the mid-70s. He was the youngest graduate of the Watervliet Arsenal's machinist apprentice program. Mike traveled the world through his employment at the Watervliet Arsenal for over 25 years, retiring 14 years ago to become the general manager and vice president of Hartchrom, Inc. at the Arsenal. He was a member of the Watervliet VFW. Mike was an "old school man," no matter what he set out to do, he would accomplish it and do it well. He believed in family, God and country, in that order. He was proudest of his "Baby Girl" becoming a nurse. Mike enjoyed NASCAR, horse racing, his crossword puzzles and yearly trips to Long Boat Key, but his favorite thing was to come home to his "little hut" to be with his family. Mike was the guiding force of our world and we will be lost without him. He is the beloved husband and best friend of Sharon O'Connor Flaherty, having just celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary; loving father of Elizabeth "Liz" Flaherty of Speigletown and the late Patrick Michael Flaherty; brother of David Flaherty of Cropseyville, Kathie (Paul) Rytlewski of Bay City, Mich., and Thomas Flaherty of Eugene, Ore. Special brother-in-law, Michael O'Connor of Green Island and "Sugar Daddy" to Kathy O'Connor Chapman of Eddington, Maine. Mike is also survived by several in-laws, nieces and nephews and favorites, Devon, Jennifer, Kate and his "little friend," Erin. Funeral from the McNulty Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Ave., Green Island, on Thursday at 9 a.m. and at Transfiguration Church in Speigletown where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
