Michael Scelsi Obituary

Scelsi, Michael A. STILLWATER The family of Michael A. Scelsi of Hudson Avenue, is saddened to announce his passing on May 3, 2022, at the age of 80 years after a brave battle with cancer. Born in Washington, D.C. on April 29, 1942, the son of the late Rocci and Carmelina Acerra Scelsi, he was a Mechanicville High School graduate. Shortly after graduating high school, Mike joined the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country for nearly four years. He would often boast "I walked past some of the biggest ships in the world." He was honorably discharged in 1963. Mike worked for NYSEG for over 30 years as a lineman, retiring as chief line mechanic. Mike's three favorite seasons were hunting season, fishing season, and bowling season. He loved to commune with nature whether trekking through the woods in search of the ever elusive 12-point buck, finding the perfect spot on the lake to catch the prize winning bass (which usually got away), or hanging in a hammock with his dog by his side. Many Friday nights were spent at the bowling alley chasing the perfect game. He would have to settle for the 2016 N.Y.S. USBC Championship, won with his son Marc and his team, held in Utica; he would tell you he "carried the team." He also enjoyed spending time at American Legion Post 490 swapping stories with his buddies, young and young at heart. Mike loved to tease, dole out goofy nicknames, and give gifts. If you were on the receiving end, know how much you were loved. He was affectionately known by family and friends as the "Genny Man"; here's to one last one for the road. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sharon Bober Scelsi; children, Darcy and Marc Scelsi; sister, Paula (Rick) Antrim, and many beloved nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 10, from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 S. Main St., Mechanicville. A burial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105. Darcy and Marc, so sad to hear of the loss of your father. Had the pleasure of bowling with him in Mechanicville a few years.

Mike was a beloved member of our extended family. He was a great dad to his children Darcy and Marc, always doing something special for them. He will be greatly missed.

I would like to offer my condolences. My Dad was John McBride and for many years worked for NYSEG and with Scelsie. I remember his happy spirit and smile. God Bless all of you with peace, comfort and faith.
