Nicholas Newell Obituary

Newell, Sergeant Nicholas Harold U.S.M.C. OCEANSIDE, Calif. Sergeant Nicholas Harold Newell, U.S.M.C., 24, of Rivera Street Oceanside, died suddenly on Sunday, October 29, 2017. Born in Troy, he was son of Scott Walter (Melissa) Newell and Tracey Dibble Newell (fiance, Mike Brienza); and husband since January 15, 2017, of Alaina T. Dunn Newell. Sergeant Newell graduated from Tamarac High School in 2011. He attended boot camp in August, 2011 and earned the title Marine three months later. Newell went on to attend Military Police School in the end of 2011. Upon conclusion of Military Police School, he was awarded Distinguished Honor Graduate and received orders to Okinawa, Japan. In April, 2012, Sergeant Newell reported to 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion, where he was the then selected to become a military working dog handler (M.W.D.). Sergeant Newell was awarded "Top Dog" at the graduation of the Military Working Dog School. He was then later selected to attend Specialized Search Dog School (SSD). Sergeant Newell attended several M.W.D. schools during his time at 3rd L.E. Battalion and was promoted to Sergeant meritoriously. Nick spent three years with his K-9 family out in Okinawa, Japan, where he supported training operations all over the Pacific. In November of 2014, Sergeant Newell executed orders to Joint Base San Antonio Lackland Air Force Base to fulfill the role as a SSD instructor. During his time as an instructor, he certified and graduated over 20 dog teams to include Marine Corps, Army, and Royal Australian Air Force students. Sergeant Newell attended Marine Special Operations Assessment and Selection in April of 2015. After selection in January, 2016, he attended the Individual Training Course (I.T.C.) and graduated as a Marine raider (critical skill operator). Nick was then stationed with 1st Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Special Operations Company Delta, Marine Special Operations Team 8143. It was there that friendship and brotherhood, again turned into his family. Sergeant Newell's awards include a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Nick loved being outdoors, at the beach, hunting, fishing, boats, snowmobiling, dirt bikes and anything that went fast. There aren't enough words to describe the impact Nick had on everyone he touched. His smile brought light into this world and put everyone at ease. He was a strong mentor. Nick was a devoted son, brother, friend and husband. Nick was a brother that some never had. He loved his family and friends so deeply and loved his wife, Alaina fiercely. Most of all, Nick was so excited to become a father and raise his future son or daughter. Never above you, never below you, always beside you! Survivors in addition to his parents and wife include his brother, David Newell; stepsister, Lauren Holt; stepbrother, Jesse Holt; his dog, Olive and his working military dog, Mako. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Ave., Troy on Friday, November 10, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, at 10 a.m. at the Brunswick Church, 42 White Church Lane, Brunswick.Interment will be in Eagle Mills Cemetery, Eagle Mills. I know you are watching from above
I hope that you can still feel my love
I hope you can see all of us who cared
From all the great memories you've shared
I hope you forgive me for any pain I caused you
I hope you know my pain now that I've lost you
I hope that you can be in peace and share it with me because now more than ever it's something I need
I hope you know you make me smile
thinking of all the good times
I hope you know that I was so grateful to have you in this life of mine
I hope you can trust in me that I'll help Alaina in her needs, that I'll care for her as much as I know you did for me
I hope you know even with you gone I'll love, be apart of, and be there for your family
I hope you know I'll never forget you
I hope you know I will always cherish you
My teammate, my best friend, my brother
I love you Nick Rest In Peace

Nick was like a son to us. His smile and wit brought us joy since he was a young boy of 9 or 10 years old. From the days of Bruswick Bulldogs to his recent wedding he made sure to stay in touch and allow us to share in his many achievements and joys. My heart will always have a special place for Nick and
I will forever see him in the face of my own son, Jordan, his very good friend, who has lost a piece of himself with Nick' s passing. Our prayers are with his family.

Our deepest heartfelt condolences to Nicks family and wife. Our family is heartbroken over your loss. Nick was a handsome, kind, driven young man full of life. It is incomprehensible the loss of a child. Though peace will be hard to find, may you find some in knowing that his legacy will live on through his unborn child and that one day you will be reunited with him again, never to be parted. In our hearts and prayers, Collen Reynolds, Brandy, Jacob and Meagan Oswald

I'm so saddened to hear of Anita's grandson's passing. He sounded like a wonderful person and surely he will be missed. I'm sorry I never got to know Scott. Anita and I are cousins and we had many memories growing up. It felt weird going to Anita's wake and not having my Uncle Peter there to introduce us to the family members we didn't know. Please accept my deepest condolences.
