Richard Dawkins Obituary

COHOES Dr. Richard F. (Stoney) Dawkins, 79, of Garner Street, entered into eternal rest embraced by his loving family on December 8, 2004 at the Eddy Ford Nursing Home after a long illness. Born in Cohoes, he was the son of the late Joseph and Nonie (Gorman) Dawkins. Dr. Dawkins was a lifelong resident of Cohoes. He was a graduate of Saint Agnes School, LaSalle Institute, Russell Sage College and Long Island University College of Podiatry cum laude. He practiced podiatry in Cohoes for over 40 years. He was a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and a member and past president of the Northeastern New York Podiatry Association. Dr. Dawkins served in the United States Navy during World War II with the rank of radar man 3rd class. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, the Samson War Veterans and the American Legion. Dr. Dawkins served as a board member of the Cohoes Community Center. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the VanSchaick Country Club. Dr. Dawkins was a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish in Cohoes. He was president of the First Parish Council and served as an usher, lector and member of the choir. He enjoyed traveling, golfing and cheering on the New York Giants. Dr. Dawkins is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Aunette Fontaine Dawkins; his daughter-in-law, Susan Dawkins; and his sister-in-law, Ruth Dawkins. He is also survived by his nephews, Michael Dawkins and John Dawkins; several cousins; and his loving extended family. He was predeceased by his loving son, Richard W. Dawkins; his brothers, Joseph Dawkins and John Dawkins; and his sister, Doris Dawkins. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Liturgy of Christian Burial on Saturday morning at 11:00 at Holy Trinity Parish. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Stanton-Farrell Funeral Home, 326 Columbia St., Cohoes. Interment in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes. Donations to Holy Trinity Parish Building Fund, 122 Vliet Blvd., or the Cohoes Community Center, Remsen St., Cohoes, NY 12047 in memory of Dr. Dawkins would be appreciated.

Dear Mrs. Dawkins,

I was very sorry to hear of your husband's passing. I still remember and treasure the times when I would walk into your home and he would exclaim "Orange Juice." I will miss him as I do my best friend.
