Rinaldo DeNuzzo Obituary

DeNuzzo, Rinaldo V. EAST GREENBUSH Rinaldo V. DeNuzzo, 88, passed away June 2, 2011 at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Cleveland, he was the son of the late Luigi DiNuzzo and Domenica Razzano DiNuzzo, devoted husband of Lucy Sneed DeNuzzo and loving father of Lisa A. DeNuzzo. In addition to his wife and daughter, Rinaldo is survived by sisters Faustine (John) DiCocco, Delores (late John) Shenaur, and Frances (Edward) Spychalski, as well as many nieces and nephews. Following graduation from Watervliet High School, he enlisted in the Army (Air Corps) and became a captain in the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served his country during World War II and the Cold War as aerial navigator, aviation mechanic, and pharmacy officer. He subsequently graduated from the Albany College of Pharmacy and earned an M.S. degree from SUNY Albany, while further enhancing his studies at Columbia University Teachers' College. A full professor at the Albany College of Pharmacy for 58 years, "Prof," as he was affectionately called, became a living legend. He practiced clinical pharmacy up until the last three years of his life and held pharmacy licenses in several states. "Prof" also served his country as a member of the U.S. Congressional review panel on prescription drug payments, as coordinator of pharmaceutical services for the XIII Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, and as chair of the NYS Department of Health's Ad Hoc Advisory Committee. In 2003, "Prof" was awarded the prestigious honorary degree doctor of humane letters (L.H.D.) by the Albany College of Pharmacy in recognition of his lifetime achievements. Other activities "Prof" was involved with include acting as regent of the Kappa Psi pharmaceutical fraternity, board member of the Harvard School of Public Health, and radio talk show guest on WGY's "Ask the Pharmacist." He was a generous supporter of the Army "A" Club at West Point, a benevolent contributor to the Lucy Sneed DeNuzzo Scholarship at Concord University, and the Rinaldo V. DeNuzzo Scholarship at the Albany College of Pharmacy. His interest as an educator allowed him to serve as a member of the East Greenbush School Board for 18 years, during which time he acted as president for two terms. In his spare time, "Prof" enjoyed attending his daughter's Schenectady Symphony concerts and appreciated her love for animals. Most recently he was proud of their grandchampion American saddlebred horse, "Java." Calling hours are Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway in Watervliet, with a brief Roman Catholic funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. Interment will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Saratoga National Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rinaldo V. DeNuzzo Project, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 106 New Scotland Ave., Albany, NY 12208.

Prof was always an interesting person. He loved ACP, the students. and had a calming demeanor. I'm sure the current political climate at the college would not be to his liking!! Rest in peace I always respected you as a person and as one of my favorite Professors at ACP.

Not many of us think of ACP without thinking of Prof. He taught all of us so much about pharmacy and most importantly, life. Its an end of an era at ACP.

I worked for Prof all 5 years at ACP. I have corresponded yearly with him and enjoyed hearing all the advances that have been made at the college. He was a very generous and kind man who helped shape the Pharmacist I am today. I am deeply saddened for your loss. My sincerest sympathies.

Prof taught both my brother and I at ACP. Whenever we returned he was always cordial and always inquired about our welfare. We referred to him as "The little Professor" He was part of our lives and may he rest in peace. Lynn Stote Palm Coast Fl

I have known Rinaldo for many years. We graduated from School 8 in 1936 and from Watervliet High School in the class of 1940. We continued to meet and at least say hello many times during the following years. He was a great guy, a wonderful man and thought very highly of by all who came in contact with him. I certainly enjoyed having known him. God Bless him and my prayers are with both of you.

Prof. DeNuzzo was a wonderful friend to my father, Dr. John Flynn as they taught together at ACP. During my father's illness, they spoke daily.
I enjoyed him as a professor and through my father's relationship with him. His kindness, intelligence and wisdom helped so many students during their years at school and beyond.
Well done, good and faithful servant.
Our prayers are with your family at this time

Oh, Ralph, what a shock! You have been a part of my life and my family's life for so many years, I simply can't believe you "retired" to Heaven already!!! We loved you as a professional, a mentor, a professor and especially a friend in life, and will continue to do so into the hereafter. I know you are always on my shoulder, counselling me and helping me to make logical sound decisions in work and life, and I will continue to heed every one; you have ever steered me in the right direction. I'm sorry I did not get home to see you before you left on your journey, but please know, you are always and forever in my heart and thoughts. Love, Darcey

Lucy and Lisa - As you know, he was such a strong, positive influence on many of us at the college. It was an honor to have known him and to have his support as a "prof", mentor, and friend. I hope you are both comforted by the many students whose lives he touched in his own special way.
