Robert Walker Obituary

Walker, Robert Eugene DELMAR Robert Eugene Walker, 73, of Delmar, died Monday, August 18, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospital. Originally from Duke Center, Pa., he was born October 11, 1934, the son of the late Robert Walker and Hazel Walker Lamb. A U.S. Navy veteran, he honorably served his country during the Korean War. Mr. Walker was retired from the NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal. Bob was a pioneer in computers and computer programming, having worked in the field from his service time in the Navy through retirement. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Kay Walker; his loving children, Jan Bourassa and husband Stephen, and Dale Walker and wife Lisa Finkell Walker. He was the proud grandfather of S.J. and Christopher Bourassa and Dustin, Kyle and Bailey Walker. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Joan Walker-Pierce. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 21 Hackett Blvd., Albany. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Emphysema Foundation, 128 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06851 or St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 21 Hackett Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.

I was very sorry to learn of Bob's passing. It has been several years since I had spoken with Bob but I remember him as a very intelligent, dedicated man who was passionate about his work, respected by his peers and extremely focused on his family. I am very sorry for your loss.

Bob was a long-time good friend with whom I continued to correspond until his death. We worked together in Monterey after which I helped them move to Idaho. Our families had many good times together. He will be missed very much by all who came in contact with him.
