Ruth and I became fast friends when I met her when she represented NYS at a Medicaid meeting in Manhattan. Her presentation was brilliant and I immediately offered my commitment to assist the state to successfully carry out the intricacies of the program and ensure coverage for all eligible clients. Whenever I was in Albany, I stayed at Ruth's house. During the week, she was a VERY early riser...before sunrise. But, she made it up on the weekends when only the aroma of bacon cooking would rouse her around noon. We went fun shopping at Cohoes...where we nearly bought out the store because it catered to larger women. When she worked in the city, she'd stay with me and even brought down a mattress for a new futon I'd purchased for her.
Ruth's humor and laughter were engaging. When I learned she'd passed, my life lost the joyous frivolity Ruth brought into it. My condolences again to her family. Ruth was one of a kind.

Dear Chuck, Ruth's family and friends: We were so sorry to hear of Ruth's passing. We knew her from Cathedral, and especially came to know her from Renew 2000 when she welcomed us along with other parish members into her home for prayer group and reflection. She was such a warm, spiritual, affectionate, giving person, and we will miss her so much. The funeral service - with Father Pape, the Choir, Glen Osborne, Bob Sheehan and others - couldn't have provided a more wonderful and touching tribute to her life. Our hearts and prayers go out to you.

Everyone always says "You did a lot for Ruth". Honestly, I feel that she has done more for me than I could have ever done for her. Ruth was a friend, a second mother, a boss, a proof-reader for college papers, a teacher, a provider of much respected guidance, a tour guide and a religious guide. Always cheerful and looking for any excuse to get together with friends and family and to meet new people. Ruth was an intelligent, caring and forgiving woman. She will be missed dearly by many and I am truly fortunate to have been a part of her life.

Jimmy and I are going to miss our many trips with Aunt Ruth to Turning Stone. She taught me how to play Blackjack and would always laugh when I took the risk she said not to take and the dealer would win. Didn't listen to me, did ya!, she'd say and laugh.

Dear Mrs. Wood, Ruth's Family, and Chuck,

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very sad and difficult time. Ruth was a kind and generous friend who was always there for a friend in need. She loved a good party and hosted many of them herself. To me, she was one of the best things about choir. I'll miss her a lot.
