Thomas Cassidy Obituary

Cassidy, Thomas F. Jr. LOUDONVILLE Thomas F. Cassidy Jr. let go of his wife's hand to pass into the arms of the Lord on February 1, 2022, at Albany Medical Center after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Tom was born to Thomas Sr., and Faire (Marshall) Cassidy on November 28, 1950. Raised in Albany, he attended Cardinal McCloskey High School, where he excelled in sports and grew a love of literature. He studied at the Sorbonne in Paris France, and then transferred to the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1976. He returned home to Albany and taught English at Albany High School and also coached the JV football team. He went on to travel the world in the hospitality business working in Hawaii, Scotland, and Nantucket, and his favorite the Wellfleet Beachcomber, to name a few of his top spots. He returned to Albany again to re-establish his painting contracting business, before dedicating his time to be a stay-at-home parent. Tom married Nancy E. Carey, on July 9, 1994, on beautiful Shelter Island N.Y., where they often returned for vacation and holidays. They raised two children, Thomas Hugh and Elizabeth Faire. Tom's family was his greatest pride and blessing. Whether he was rooting for Thomas at a sporting event, cheering for Elizabeth on stage, or supporting Nancy in her career, he was a proud father, husband and friend. He is survived by his wife and children, as well as his sisters, Jill (late Tim) Leonard and Maureen (Gerry Kluft); and his brother, Michael (Janet). He was predeceased by his brother William; and sister Margaret Levine. He is also survived by his nephews, Colin (Nicole) and Kevin Cassidy, David Perfield (Lisa); and niece, Jill Anelli. Tom was a great friend and companion to his late father-in-law, Governor Hugh L. Carey, and is also survived by many Carey inlaws, nieces and nephews. Tom volunteered with many regional non-profit organizations. During his children's school years, he was a member of the Albany Academy Parents Association. He spent many years as a children's advocate in Family Court as a volunteer with CASA. As a lifelong Catholic, he was a Eucharistic Minister at the Parish of Mater Christi. He was especially dedicated to the Center for Disability Services. He served on their board of directors and chaired their commercial services division, working closely with the printing division, which employed many members of the disabled community, as well as the transportation division. He was so engaged with the Center that they named the transportation building in his honor in 2019. Tom was a lifelong member of Wolferts Roost County Club. Those who knew Tom were well aware of his passion for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, his love of a great story, and his Irish heritage. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Tom's family Sunday, February 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Pius X Church, Loudonville. Masks are required for everyone, regardless of vaccination status. Funeral services on Monday, February 7, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Church where his funeral Mass will be concelebrated. Nancy, Thomas and Lizzy, I am so incredibly sad for you; and for myself. Tom is one of my favorite people in the world and I thought I would see him again. I will never forget how much fun we had bartending together at the Beachcomber. A group of bikers came in one day, and one guy had a prosthetic leg covered by a cowboy boot. He took the whole thing off and asked me if I´d fill it with draft beer. I was pretty freaked out so I asked Tom what I should do. He said he´d handle it, and I watched him take the guy´s leg/boot and fill it up with beer! So many funny things!! He was also so thoughtful and kind. He made the effort to come and show support when my son Louie died, and has so generously donated to our Live For Lou Fund. There are so many things I could say and I´m so sorry I wasn´t able to be with you today. I´m holding all of you in my heart and sending so much love. Rest In Peace, Tom. I will never forget you.

The last time I saw Tom was when if you wanted to call someone you opened the kitchen window and yelled out. However, we did have many adventures together back in the day. I remember that at parties or social gatherings one would only have to follow the laughter to find Tom. On one of his Trips to Ireland I have a feeling that not only did Tom kiss the Blarney Stone but took a big bite out of it. Tom was surely a people person. From prince to pauper he moved effortlessly with people from all walks of life.
His work for Disability Services sets an example for all to look after our less fortunate sisters and brothers.
I am sad to hear about Tom´s death. I hope in time his memory and spirit will bring comfort and peace to his family and his many friends.

So Tom, you decided to embark suddenly on your last journey, leaving us behind in grief.
A grief that can only be softened by the sweet memories that you helped create. No doubt Tom you will be missed! Missed especially by those who love you as you are leaving behind a gap difficult to be filled.
Our daughter always felt the love at the Cassidy´s home. Tom had a kind word for everyone, young and old, he was happy to share a nice story with friends, and he was always ready to celebrate life. His cheerful energy, his "joie de vivre" made him the one and only Tom.

Requiescat in Pace (R. I. P.)
We will always love you!

Tom rescued me after the ladder I was painting from slipped out and I fell to the floor while we were setting up for Dancing in the woods. Tom certainly knew how to lighten up a moment that slightly bruised my shins and my ego ! He was situated right around the corner and just out of sight and quickly commented " I´ve heard that sound before, are you OK ?" We laughed and continued on.RIP Tom My condolences to Nancy and the entire family.

Oh no. Nancy, Tom, LIZZY, Jill, Mike, Maureen. Like everyone, I am so shocked and saddened by Tom´s sudden and untimely passing. I knew him mainly thru his sister Jill. What a hero he has been to her during her health situation. He stepped right up and supported her selflessly. He will be unbelievably missed by his family and all the people he has touched throughout his life. My sincerest sympathies to all his family.
