Thomas Cavosie Obituary

COHOES Thomas Edward Cavosie, 55, died tragically on July 10, 2003, while fishing with close friends in Newfoundland. Born in Albany and a lifelong resident of Cohoes. Son of Kathleen Scott Cavosie and the late Raymond Cavosie. A graduate of Cohoes High School and HVCC. In 1966, he enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam, being awarded the Bronze Star. Tom retired in November 2002 after 32 years in NYS service at the Departments of Education and Social Services. Culminating his career as project manager in the Information Technology field, his team received the Best of New York Award for the Welfare Reporting Tracking System. Tom was a devoted hockey fan and he instilled the love of hockey in his sons, as their playing instilled the love of the game in him. For several years, he served as the equipment manager for the RPI men's ice hockey team and was also the skate sharpener for the men's and women's teams. He was an active member of the Albany Academy Father's Association and the Cohoes High Men's Association. Following his retirement, Tom pursued his love of fishing and was able to spend more time with his children and grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. Devoted father to Kimberly Amy Ingerson and her husband, Corey of Latham; his sons, Eric Thomas Cavosie and Marc Christian Cavosie, both of Cohoes; doting grandfather to McKenna and Morgen Ingerson; beloved brother of Robert Cavosie (Anne) of Waterford, Richard Cavosie (Beth) of Clifton Park and Kathleen Shover (Marc) of Cohoes; formerly married to Shelia Connelly of Cohoes (mother of Kim) and Robin Cavosie of Guilderland (mother of Eric and Marc). Tom maintained a warm, friendly relationship with both; loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Marra Funeral Home, corner of Remsen and Columbia Streets, Cohoes and at 10 a.m. from the University Parish of Christ Sun of Justice Chapel on Burdett Avenue, Troy. Interment with full military honors will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Those who wish may make donations in Tom's memory to the Thomas E. Cavosie Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 9144, Albany, NY 12209.

Eric,Marc, and Robin-
Sorry for your loss. Ever since Tom started sharpening skates at AA there's only been two people I trusted and allowed to sharpen or even touch my skates...Tom and my dad. He was the best and for that and many more reasons he'll be missed. My deepest sympathy goes out to you and the rest of your family.

My deepest sympathy to the Cavosie family.

I worked with Tom on the Welfare Reporting Tracking System as a contractor. I have met a lot of people in my line of work, and Tom stands out as one of the most memorable. He was a kind person who truly cared about other people. I often admired the way he went out of his way to put other people’s feelings before his. But the best thing I remember about Tom was his smile first thing in the morning – genuine and warm.

I was blessed to have known him.

Marc & Family,

I am so deeply saddened to hear about your loss. Tom was such a marvelous person and inspiration for me in my life. I pray God's peace for you all at this time. I just thank God that I was fortunate enough to have known him and recently was able to fish with and spend some quality time with him this summer. My memory of his spirit, heart, and love for his family is something that I will forever carry forward as an example in my life.

God Bless You all and I commit all my love to you all as a brother in Christ always.

Sincerely,

J. Christopher Turnbow

I lived in Tom's neighborhood and was his paperboy when i was a kid. I would see him from time to time during Lunch somewhere in downtown Albany and we would always get a laugh out of how he used to get on my case about putting the paper in the wrong place or being 2 hours late with it. you could tell by the look on his face and how he talked he was so proud of his sons and their hockey careers. He is a great guy and I will miss seeing him around town.
