Kotas, Thomas
COLONIE - Thomas F. Kotas 89, of Colonie, passed away peacefully, on Friday, June 20, 2025, after a brief illness, at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born on January 29, 1936, in Syracuse, N.Y., and was the son of the late Henry J. Sr and Catherine Kotas of Syracuse.
Thomas was a 1953 Graduate of St John the Evangelist High School, in Syracuse, and a 1959 graduate of Hobart College in Geneva, N.Y., with degree a in economics. He later completed his Master's Degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He owned and managed a Carvel Ice Cream store in Oswego in the 1970s, and went on to the Watervliet Arsenal in the 1980s, where he worked as a Supervisor in the Labor Relation Unit, until retiring in 1995.
Thomas loved sports, he played on the St John the Evangelist Football Team in High School and the Hobart College Basketball Team. He was a lifetime lover of golf, and he gave golf lessons.
Thomas was a generous man with his time and resources, and was always concerned with the welfare of others.
He is the brother of the late Henry J. Kotas, of Baldwinsville N.Y. He is predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Ellen M. (Welch) Kotas. He is Survived by his son, William A. Kotas, of Colonie, N.Y., and by multiple cousins and many friends.
Interment will be a the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, in Niskayuna, N.Y. A memorial service will be held at a date to be determined.
At the request of the family, memorial contributions are preferred for the Alzheimer's Association.
