POESTENKILL - Thomas P. Zemanick, 85, passed away in the comfort of his home on July 4, 2023. Born in Miners Mills, Pa., on January 1, 1938, he was the son of the late John and Agnes (Wilk) Zemanick.
Thomas moved to Averill Park in the 1950's and graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1956. Following graduation, he was employed by the Defreestville Lumber Co., while also serving in the Army National Guard from 1958 to 1969. In 1971, he began his career at Niagara Mohawk, first as a meter reader, and later as the supervisor of the Transportation Dept., at the time of his retirement in 1994. Thomas was a devoted member of St. Jude the Apostle Parish and was very active in volunteering his time to provide maintenance and repair of the church and the school there for many years. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix. He was an excellent auto mechanic, carpenter, electrician, mason, and plumber, and loved to help when something was broken.
Thomas was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Elizabeth (Peterson) Zemanick, who passed away just 10 days prior to his passing; and his brothers, Peter (Judith), John (Eileen), and Frank (Sandy). Survivors include his children, Christine (Eric) Thorkildsen, and Thomas J. (Wendy) Zemanick; his brother, Edward (Mary Eileen) Zemanick; his grandchildren, Maxwell (Mary) Zemanick, Lynsey Zemanick, Augustus (Kelsey) Thorkildsen, Shane Thorkildsen, and Trent (Danielle) Thorkildsen; and his stepgrandchildren, Rachel Storms, Brianna Storms, Asia Harding, Jillian Storms, and Eve Storms.
A combined funeral service for Thomas and Elizabeth will be held at a future date at St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill, NY.
