William VanDenburgh Obituary

GLENVILLE William L. VanDenburgh, 81, of Saratoga Road, died Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at Ellis Hospital after a short illness. Mr. VanDenburgh was born in Cohoes to the late Leslie and Marie Louise Pereault VanDenburgh and lived in the Schenectady area most of his life. He was a graduate of the former St. Columba's High School. Mr. VanDenburgh was a decorated combat veteran and prisoner of war, serving in the Army during World War II. He was wounded and captured during the Battle of the Bulge in December of 1944. He began his career in 1946 as a toolmaker at General Electric, retiring after 45 years as a manufacturing engineer at KAPL. Mr. VanDenburgh was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady and a member of its holy name society. Mr. VanDenburgh is predeceased by a brother, Donald L. VanDenburgh. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Grace Nelson VanDenburgh; one son John W. VanDenburgh and his wife Diane of Glenville, three grandchildren, Daniel VanDenburgh, Marie Louise VanDenburgh and Katherine VanDenburgh, all of Glenville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Gleason Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John the Evangelist Church Restoration Fund, 816 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
