Angelo DeFide Obituary

DEFIDE A Mass of Christian Burial for Angelo Frank DeFide will be held at 11AM Wednesday March 22, 2006 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church 1659 Kingsley Avenue Orange Park, Florida with Father Jose Kulathinal and Father James R. Boddie, Jr., officiating. Entombment will follow in Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. DeFide was born in New York City, New York on June 7, 1936. He attended St. Ann's Academy. Mr. DeFide served his country proudly retiring after 36 years of decorated service serving in the Marines for four years, Air Force for eight years, and the Army for twenty four years. Mr. DeFide was a pilot and served two tours in the Vietnam War, he retired with military honors, he was truly dedicated to his country. Mr. DeFide was a devoted member of the St. Catherine's Catholic Church, and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Martha "Marty" DeFide; three daughters, Sharon Hodges, Angela Ritter(Jeff), and Samantha Barr (Ben); two step-sons, Ken (Amy), and Eddie Young; aunt and god-mother, Helen Lozar; seven grandchildren, Jared and Hannah Ritter, Maggie and Abby Barr, Zack Young, Brandi Vaughan, and Michelle Lancaster. Mr. DeFide was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all that loved and knew him. Mr. DeFide was instrumental with starting a faith based cancer support group for patients and care givers facing the everyday challenges of dealing with cancer, a much needed ministry in the community. Family will receive friends on Tuesday (TODAY) from 6PM-8PM at JACKSONVILLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME 111 Blanding Blvd. Orange Park, Florida with a vigil service at 6:30PM. In lieu of flowers family requests memorials in Mr. DeFide's name be made to Lymphoma Leukemia Society, or the St. Jude's Children Hospital, or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, or charity of your choice.
