CHRISTOPHER O'SHEA Obituary

O SHEA Christopher J. O'Shea, 87, passed away at home in St. Augustine, FL, on November 7, 2012. Born in New York City on April, 28, 1925 to Irish Immigrant parents; Chris was the oldest of ten children. Raised in Hempstead, Long Island, Chris enlisted in the U.S. Army on his 18th birthday in 1943. He served with the 2nd Armored Division Hell on Wheels Battalion. He was a veteran of Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland Campaigns as well as the Battle of the Bulge, December 1944-January 1945. He met and married his wife of 64 years, the former Ms. Joan S. Tripp, in September of 1948. They moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1950. Chris was employed by Southern Bell Telephone Company for 37 years and retired as a Plant Construction Supervisor in 1984. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Chris was an avid golfer who recorded four hole-in-ones, and won the Jacksonville Beach Men's Golf Association Championship in 1977. He was instrumental in handling the ground breaking communications for Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in 1959-60, and was a St. Vincent DePaul Member. Chris and Joan built two homes in retirement, finally settling in St. Augustine in 2000 and became members of San Sebastian Catholic Church. Chris is survived by his wife, Joan S. O'Shea; daughters, Susan O. Bailey (Tom, deceased), Noreen P. O'Shea; sons, Chris S. O'Shea (Cathy), and Kevin D. O'Shea (Judy); brothers, Dennis, James, Thomas; sister, Catherine, and eight grandchildren. Chris was a huge Seminole fan and he was blessed with numerous friends who will miss his witty Irish charm and gregarious sense of humor. The family gives special thanks to Hospice of Northeast Florida. Services will be on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Ponte Vedra Valley Cemetery, 4750 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082. A viewing will be held that day at 11 am with a funeral service at noon, followed by burial with Military Honors. Please sign the online guest book at www.pontevedravalley.com.
