It's hard to believe 13 years have passed. I could never than Mitch enough for all the genealogy info he gave me and just friendly messages we exchanged. He is certainly not forgotten.

Hi Mitch, I know you are looking down on all of us - your cousins and we have missed you a great deal. I will never forget the times we would meet at that little restuarant in Smithville to talk about family. Your help in sorting out my Trapp family lines from Tennessee was a true blessing. Just want to say Happy Birthday to a most fantastic cousin. Yea, I know I'm a week late but we both share that same wonderful closeness of family. Hope your children are doing well, I have not been in contact with them as of late. Miss you and all of your kind words and knowledge.

I would like to express my sympathy at the passing of Mr. Jones. I am descended from the same William A. Jones as he was. I have a copy of the Jones Family in America and it has provided great help in tracing my Jones family through Delaware and Georgia. I am sorry at the passing of such a great man, historian and author.
Sincerely, Patricia Corbell Gonzalez

Mitch is missed by so many of us. He helped me with his Trapp line and I supplied him some Jones material. I hope his children are doing OK now. They were in a bad spot after his death. May God's blessing be with them now and always. There cousin, Bob Trapp

I realize it has been many years since cousin Mitch's passing; his genealogy site inspired me in 2013 and I am wondering if it has been moved or simply disappeared? My sincere condolences even belated to his family.

It's coming up on your birthday, Cousin. You are missed! What a wonderful legacy you have left me and all the members of the Mullican family. We shared your work at a mini-reunion occasioned by my Mom's 75th birthday. Too many have passed. I know you are having a blast meeting in person all those you kept in memory. Say hello to Grandma Gooden. I'll never forget you Cousin.

Dear Jones Family,
I am so sorry to find that Mr. Jones has passed in 2006 as I see this Obit for the first time in 2011. Mr. Jones freely shared his family line information with us after responding to a bulletin board inquiry. He tied us directly into his Family Tree line all the way back to Gen 1. Although I did not personnaly know him I know he was a great researcher and Family Man. Condolences on your loss. Gerald Jones [email protected]

I am a Mullican desendant and Mitch and I exchanged information many times. I hadn't done any genealogy in some time but wanted to reconnect with him. When his email was no longer valid I knew something had changed and did a search. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I never met him but he was very gracious and helpful to me on-line. My deepest condolences to the family. Jean Taylor, Houston, TX

I am so sorry to hear about Mitch's passing on. I just found out. Although I was never fortunate to meet Mitch I have known about him for years especially through my great-Aunt Nora Jones Steele who I know really cared about him. Mitch has helped me so much with the Jones and Prettyman lines. He will be missed by all.

Mitch and I used to email each other alot of times about the Jones. He always was so pleasant and happy to help me with some informations and also when I got some good informations and shared them with him.
I emailed him a few weeks ago but I wondered why I didnt get his reply because he always replied right away. I now know why. I just learned tonight about his death. I will miss him so much and miss sharing the Jones informations, He was really a wonderful pleasant man.
I wish I had met him in person but will someday when it is my time.
Mitch, your name will be always remembered and honored at the Memorial Day events for the war veterans from Silver Point at the Silver Point cemetery every year.

I'm a distant Mullican cousin who met Mitch online. He was such a gracious correspondent, and I deeply appreciated him posting pictures of people and the land on his website. He was a thoughtful and skilled genealogist and I was proud of the connection. Prayers for your family and friends from here in Texas. I will be singing at another friend's funeral tomorrow, and part of me will be singing those dear old notes and words for Mitch.

John, Michelle, and Paul;
I was truly Saddened to hear of your fathers death. We met several years ago on the Internet and I had the pleasure of meeting one time in Smithville, when he had gone there to give a talk to the genealogy society there. I drove from my daughters home in Paducah, Kentucky just to meet him. He was always had so much love of family that I wanted to meet Mitch in person. When we met at the Potter Library he suggested a local restaurant we could talk at after the library
closed. Mitch, my wife and I sat up most of the night just talking about family and our children. One of the others things I remember most about that night was he love for his old alma mater as he drove up to the restaurant with those orange flags of his flying from the back windows of his car.
I just wanted to let all of you know that he will truly be missed. We were 6th cousins on the Trapp side of the family. There was never any question he was not able to help me with in whole or part.
My prayers and those of my family are with you and Mitch’s wife, Michelle at this time, may God keep and bless you all.
Your cousin,
Bob Trapp (a.k.a. Robert Arthur Trapp)

Mitch was a wonderful sharing person that I met while researching my family and related families...the Jones was one of those families.

I wish to express my condolences to his family, Mitch was a very special individual to find and converse with.
I am so sad to hear of his passing...he did alot for so many people and was very proud of his family.

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of "Mitch" Jones. I became acquainted with Mitch on line, We exchanged e-mails over the years discussing the Prettyman, Jones and related families in our genealogical research. In so doing, we became good friends.
Mitch will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Family and Friends of Mitch;
Please accept my deepest sympathy on the passing of Mitch. I just now learned of this and I am quite sad.
Mitch and I go back several years having exchanged phone calls, snail mail, and email on our family connections through the Jones and Prettyman families.
Mitch and I worked so very many hours on our Prettyman information (we were 9th cousins on the Prettyman side). He was an excellent researcher that will be sorely missed.
He spoke to me of his children and was a proud father. Since Paul and my son are about the same age, we often exchanged information about our boys.
His loss is premature and I hope that his memory will live on in many ways.

My deepest sympathies to you on the loss of Mitch. I can not remember a time in the numerous years that I have known Mitch when he was not extremely nice and helpful. My son had the priviledge to play baseball and attend ACD with Paul. I can not remember a moment when I saw Paul anywhere that Mitch was not there. Mitch truly was a wonderful father. Mitch you will be truly missed. May God bless you and your family during this time

Michelle & Michelle, John, Paul & Janis, it saddens us greatly, that Mitch has passed away. We have fond memories of Mitch, Michelle and Paul in our home. Mitch touched many lives through his genealogical research. We are cousins, through our great, great grandfathers in both the Jones and Smith lines. Again, we are saddened with your loss. My wife and I met Mitch at a Genealogy Conference about 25 years ago. He visited our booth where we were selling copies of our genealgy books on Delaware and other states. As he browsed our books he made a major discovery of Prettyman Jones. Many lively conversations ensued that day and on several occasions afterward. We alwys looked forward to his engaging manner and interesting stories. In recent years he sent us his work on the Jones family which we published along with other Delaware families. What a generous guy he was. And thoughtful. We and the genealogy community will miss him greatly.

Hearing of Mitch's passing was a shock. He was far too young.
I never met Mitch in person, but rather through emails and his website. We are distant cousins through our McGinnis line and our Atnip line. He was always very pleasant, knowledgeable and
helpful. He will be greatly missed.
May the Lord give you, his dear wife and children, strength to get through the difficult days. May you feel His love and the peace that passes all understanding. You are in my prayers.
Most Sincerely,
Harlene

I just discovered and reconnected with my entire Mullican family, mostly due to Mitch's pages on the Mullikin/Mullican line.
Even though a new cousin, Mitch dropped me a note - one because of an e-mail I sent him on Moon Mullican, and also to send him information on our branch of George Pinkney's line. He wrote to say he was interested, even though chemotherapy was keeping him from staying on top of such things. I can't adequately communicate to those of you who don't know my immediate family or our story well how much Mitch's work has meant, and will continue to mean.
I am sad to see him go before I got back to DeKalb County to visit where my line and his merged, and to thank him personally and in-person for all his work.
My aunt Bessie Mullican just died on Thanksgiving. I hope she gets to meet Mitch and discover all those things about our family he knew, as he will find another cousin to greet him... As another internet poster commenting on Mitch's passing so beautifully put it, "he will really get all the branches connected now".
May God help you who knew and loved him more personally in what must be such a great time of loss. Know that he touched one person in his last three months so deeply in a great expression of the word "family".

You do not have to be told how special your father was! He was proud of his heritage, roots, and family.
Couldn't keep it contained and let all of his friends know of your achievements. We had fun teasing about his head getting bigger with each success you children had!
You know you were his pride and joy!

John, Michelle, and Paul,
In case you missed it, this is the letter that I sent to the DeKalb Co. TN and Atnip lists. I miss him deeply - not many friends like him. We all have fond memories which we'll always treasure.
I was just notified that a very dear friend and Atnip, Allen, Page cousin of mine passed away today. D. Mitchell Jones, known as Mitch to his friends, will be dearly missed. He has posted many times to this list and loved genealogy and this county and our Atnip heritage. Though he lived in Florida, Mitch was always a Tennessian at heart. I doubt if there are many on this list, who were not 'touched in some way' by Mitch's postings. He was always searching for the truth. For those of us, who were lucky enough to have met him personally or had a chance to get to know him, we were truly blessed. We will never forget him.
Please remember his three children in prayer - John, Michelle and Paul.
Though we will probably get an obituary in the next day or two ( I just didn't feel it would be sufficient for a man who meant so much to so many of us), Mitch is best remembered for his love for his family, love for Tennessee (especially DeKalb Co., area and the Silver Point area in particuiar), the Vols, his tribute to America, the Boy Scouts, his interest in the civil war, and his interests in his son's baseball and band. His children were his life. He loved them dearly and he was proud of all three of them. They always came first in his life.
I'll never forget when I met him personally and it was like I had known him always. We used to share many messges on the messenger and the weekly e-mails were numerous. Many times he would message me, "Ann, can you do a graphic for me? Need one for Paul's new baseball team, Need a banner for my direct ancestors. Need to show my beautiful Tennessian Land." "Got a new idea for a new webiste for the Atnip site. Going to visit Ephrata Cloister - want some photos? Get the site ready?" When Mitch asked for something, there was never any hesitation. Will miss you my dear friend,
Ann (Jobe) Brown
