David Wainer Obituary

WAINER David Samuel Sonny Wainer, Jr., went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 14, 2016, surrounded by his family, at the age of 80. David was born in Valdosta, Georgia on January 20, 1936, to Dave and Emma Wainer. After graduating from Woodberry Forest School near Orange Virginia in 1955, he attended Georgia Tech where he played freshman football, was a member of ROTC and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. David graduated from Georgia Tech in 1960 with a degree in Industrial Management and served as a lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers in Paris France. During his time in Europe David studied under Dr. Francis Schaeffer at L'Abri Fellowship in Huemoz, Switzerland. In 1966 David met the love of his life, Patricia McCormick. They were married on February 3, 1968. David worked for B. B. McCormick & Sons, general contractors in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, during which time he was one of the contractors of record for the site work at Disney's EPCOT. David was a member of the St. Andrews Society of Jacksonville and of the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence. David was also a founding elder of Beaches Chapel Church in Neptune Beach, was a leader in Full Gospel Businessmen International, and led or participated in numerous Bible studies and intercessory prayer groups and performed many marriages. David was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Parrott and leaves his wife of 48 years, Patricia, their sons, David III (Catherine), John (Shelley), Michael (Amanda), and Joseph (Elizabeth) and their daughter, Selah Jean, nine grandchildren, his sister, Kathie Owens, and many nieces and nephews. David was most proud of his four boys, their accomplishments in life with God and his grandchildren. His daughter, Selah, was the apple of his eye and he dedicated much of his life to her care. He enjoyed watching any form of football on TV, especially his beloved Georgia Tech Yellowjackets. He was known for his boiled peanut preparation and relished sharing (and eating his share) with family and friends. Most importantly, David leaves behind a legacy of walking with the Lord throughout one's life regardless of adversity that touched the lives of hundreds in our community and around the country. There will be a celebration of his life at 5 p.m. Sunday, December 18, at Beaches Chapel Church. A family funeral for the Wainer-McCormick-Oesterreicher family and out of town friends will be on December 19, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the Beaches Area Historical Society Chapel, followed by a burial at Cosmo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Church of Our Savior Building Fund, 511 Pablo Ave., Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hardage-Giddens Beaches Chapel, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250. Pat, we are so sorry for your loss. David was a fine man, full of kindness and love. I always enjoyed hearing John tell stories about what a wonderful, loving father David was to all the boys and Selah. He was an honorable man and his eternal rest is well-earned.
