Sadly, I did not know Dr. Page, however, I know how proud his mother was of him. I had the pleasure of Mrs. Page and Margaret McMillan taking care of my two youngest children back in the 60's at their home on St. Augustine Rd.
The Page-McMillan Day Care was a godsend for working families as myself. There are many fond memories of those days and the wonderful care my children received. Reading the messages just reinforces his heritage. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. May the peace of the Lord be with each of you.

Mrs.Page & Family,
I had the wonderful priviledge of working with Dr.Page at the OLD St. Luke's Hospital. He was one of those physicians who was truly was Dedicated. His Dedication wasnt only to his patients. I remember him umpiring a Charity Softball Game for one of the Nurses who had been in a car accident. When we moved out to the New St. Luke's Hospital we were in the same building The Roger Main Building. I worked for Dr. David Dalton. We shared the on going battle of Ga/Fl Game every year. He and I would always bet $1.00, if I would loose he didnt want my DAWG money. But if I won I had to take that Gators Dollar. Our Careers went in different directions. I will always have the memories of his special dedication to his family, patients, friends, collegues and his loyalty to his GATORS...
These are just a few memories that I will always cherish. It was my honor to have known him. Thank you to the family for sharing with all of us in the community.

condolences to the Page family, Gene and I were team mates at LHS and I thought a great deal of him. Gene was voted "Most Outstanding Player" in the Northeast Conference in 1956. I was blessed to have received that same honor in 1957. It was special because Gene called me from UF to congratulate me. I was fortunate to have known him and to have him as a friend.
God bless his family. Lester "Punk" Mason Birmingham AL

Dear Pat, Gene, Fred and families,
It was with great sadness that I learned of Gene's passing. I had just received a wonderful photo of the ceremony honoring him at NOL a few weeks prior when they named the clubhouse and one of the fields for him. What a fitting tribute to one who gave so selflessly to the program for so many years. Gene touched so many lives through his love of baseball and willingness to continue sharing that gift long after Gene and Fred had graduated from the program. My late husband Dutch and I had the pleasure of working with Gene at NOL for many years - our boys loved and respected "Doc Page" and he will always hold a special place in our hearts. To all of you, our sincerest sympathies - know that Gene will always be remembered for he was so well loved. Sincerely, Patty TenEyck

I was so saddened to hear of Dr. Page's passing. I worked as his nurse many years ago when he was with the private practice and have a great respect for him and his wonderful touch with all who came in contact with him. He was indeed a very special man!

I loved working with Dr. Page, both at St. Luke's and Mayo Clinic. He always had a smile on his face and kind words to say. He was very approachable and always had time for you no matter what he was doing. I will miss him dearly, but I know all of Heaven has a smile on their face

I met Dr. Page on July 7, 2005, and that meeting changed the course of my life. Twenty-one days later, because “his nose” still wanted more answers, I underwent a heart cath and on the same day a triple bypass and repair of a hole in my heart which gave me, is giving me, a longer life. He was my “Wizard of Oz” and for that my family and I will be forever grateful. But that is not all, I learned to love Dr. Page as a father over this very short time, and when his illness was diagnosed I felt pain just like the pain I felt when my own Dad was diagnosed and died of lung cancer in 2000. I will forever remember him wearing his seersucker suit and cowboy boots to the hospital and/or to the “examining room” at Mayo. So special was he that my husband and I presented him with a pair of Lucchese boots for Christmas 2005. He was so special to many people. I am so proud to say I was/am one of them. To Mrs. Page, and the entire Page family, I want to say a huge Thank You for sharing! May you find peace and comfort in knowing that he is now with the Great Physician and we will see him once more in all his glory. God bless each and every one of you and yours. With much love and affection,

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. The thoughts of many are with you at this time of sorrow. Gene and I played little league baseball on different teams in 1951. He was on the Optimist and I played for the VFW. We also went to LHS together. I graduated in 1958 and remember him well.

Dear Page Family,
Although we never met, Gene was my cousin. His Father Gene, Sr. and my father, Charles Page were first cousins. Gene's grandmother and my grandmother were sisters who married first cousins (Walter Page and Charlie Page). As children we all gathered at Wakulla Station at the Page General Store on Sundays to swim, ride horses and wander in the woods. The parents always had a card game going; one would step out of the game and another would step in. I always loved "big Gene" and Dorothy. I know how proud they were of Gene and rightly so.
My husband died of a malignant brain tumor a year and a half ago, so I can emphathize with your lost.
I wish you peace and blessings,

To all of the Page family,
I had the pleasure of knowing you all for 14 years, when I worked for Dr. Knight, and saw you all every six months. Dr. Page was always one of my favorites. I still have the poem he wrote me right before Dr. Knight retired. He was such a joy to know. He would keep me laughing the entire time I cleaned his teeth. Dr. Knight informed me about his illness.
I was really saddened to read about his passing in the paper. I did love the part about his cowboy boots, because that is just how I remember him. I pray for his blessed homecoming. I will continue to pray for you all. Fred and Gene, he loved you both dearly and always talked about you. He had hunting stories, as well as family and grandchildren stories. He was very proud of you both. Mrs. Page, you were his true partner. He always talked about you with love in his eyes and heart.
I am sorry I missed the service, but I just got back into town this afternoon, when I read the sad news. My heart and prayers are with your entire family.
Sincerely,
Pat Lemire

I was saddened to hear of Dr. Page's passing. I played baseball at NOL in the late 70's/early 80's when he was coaching. My two older brothers played on his teams as well. He spent quite a bit of time at the ball park. Coaching, volunterring, being the umpire, and in general, an icon of NOL little league. A few years ago my nephew was playing at NOL and Gene was still there, serving as the ump behind home plate.
When I get together with friends from time to time and we reflect on our "good ole days", we always talk about the childhood rivals we had at NOL (Daley/Claude Nolan). We still say those were some of the best years and Dr. Page was a huge part of that.
The Page family is in my thoughts and prayers.

As a former patient, I came to know Dr Page as a very competent and caring physician. In counselling me with his sage medical advice, he used plain language, not 'doctor speak.'
As a volunteer at Mayo Clinic, I saw him often and enjoyed his constant smile and friendliness. Comments from his patients reflected the high respect in which he was held.
My sincere sympathy to the family- May the Peace of the Lord be ALWAYS with you !

Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
May he rest in Peace

Dear Pat and Family,
My heart is heavy as you prepare for Gene's funeral tomorrow. It was just 4 weeks ago yesterday that we buried John. It matters not the circumstance of a loved one's passing, whether a known illness or a sudden unexpected passing; the pain, sorrow, and grief bring us to a place that we didn't know existed until now.
My prayers are lifted for you, Pat, and the entire family that God will hold all of you very closely and give you a peace that only He can give. Gene was a wonderful man and physician. I know that he is leaving a great void with his family, his friends, and in the medical community of Jacksonville, and beyond.
May God bless all of you now and in the days to come. Please know that I love you and share with you in your sorrow.
Love,
Gail

Pat/Gene/Fred: It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Gene. He was without a doubt one of the greatest builders of character in young boys and teens. I had the pleasure of being around him for about fifteen years at NOL. He coached and taught my son Erik as well as myself not only the skills of baseball, but more importantly the skills of life. Many an adult today can thank him for preparing them for the roles they would assume in later years. On many occasions, my son Erik would remark that Coach Page helped him with not only baseball skills, but also in life's lessons. He was a "hero " to him. His legacy is whenever it is spring and a young boy's fancy turns to baseball; Gene will be there to declare " PLAY BALL "

I was sadden to learn of Gene's death today. A Gator football teammate (Bob Wehking)of mine and Gene, let me know. I hadn't seen Gene since our Gator Days 1957 - 61, but always will remember him as a nice and a smart guy. We use to kid him about giving us some of his "smarts" so that we could get through our Engineering and Physical Education courses. I will miss him. My condolences to his family.

Pancreatic cancer was probably the only obstacle that Gene Page could not overcome. He was a man of many talents and excelled in all of them. We first met at our South Carolina deer hunting camp where we were roommates and shared many fond experiences at the rifle range and when pursuing elusive bucks. He later became my cardiologist and monitored my heart surgery to a successful conclusion. He will be long remembered and truly missed. My sincere sympathy is extended to all the Page Family, and I regret not being with them at Saturday's service when I'll be in California attending a convention.
