I absolutely loved my grandpa. He was always cheerful and loved his St. Bernard, Buffy almost as much as my grandma "Shine." There home was small and modest but they they had an efficiency apartment attached to it. When our home burned down, they didn't hesitate to move my mom, my stepdad George and my brother, Jon right in. We enjoyed Sunday supper at their house and went to Dairy Queen for ice cream after. My parents would spend lots of late evenings playing cards and laughing with my grandparents. Those are some of my fondest early memories. Grandpa always had a cigar in his mouth (not lit) and smelled like diesel. He and my dad were always working on a truck or diesel in Grandpa's garage and that's where my love of cars stem from. Thank you Grandpa for the wonderful memories.
