James Wallace "Wally" Thompson, Sr., 79, died peacefully, surrounded by family on March 15, 2021 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born on March 25, 1941 to Rufus and Cleo Thompson in Donalsonville, GA, where he spent his childhood on the family farm. After graduating, he attended the School of the Ozarks and served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1969. As he began his 30+ year career with CSX, he met and married his sweetheart, Linda Fullwood. An avid fisherman, he spent most weekends on the water with his wife and children. He was a dedicated husband and father always willing to help others and often unwillingly caught up in his wife's adventures.
Wallace is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Linda M. Thompson, his son, James "Wally" Thompson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, his son Craig B. Thompson (Gina) of Raeford, NC, and his daughter, Denise Thompson Kaneer (Ron) of Callahan, FL, his grandchildren, Ashley, Jeremy, Kayla, Courtney, Ronnie, and Kimberly, and great-grandchildren, Maddox, Henry, Finley, Emma, Mackenzie, and Jericho, his brothers, Aaron (Theresa), Tommy (Karen),
Wayne (Marsha), Raymond (Wanda), and Rex (Nancy), and sisters, Evelyn Lee and Diane Dupriest (Sol), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Cleo Thompson; his brother, Edward (Darlene); his brother-in-law, Roy Lee; and his granddaughter, Haley Thompson.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church with visitation on Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 6-8 PM at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home, Donalsonville, GA.
