Julia Langston Obituary

LANGSTON Our dear mother, mom, mama, grandmommy, and JuJu joined her husband of 71 years, Fred, in heaven with the Lord on Friday night, September 30, 2011. Julia Bell Kinsey Langston was born February 20,1917, in Jennings, Florida where she attended school and graduated from Jennings High School. She moved to Jacksonville at the age of 18 and lived at the YWCA while she attended Massey Business College. She worked for local businesses including Huckins Yacht Corporation and McGiffin & Co. During those years she joined the Debonaire Club and Alpha Iota Sorority and met life long friends and her soul mate, Fred. Julia was the wonderful Mother for her four children, Linda Copeland (Dean) of Atlanta, Cheryl Bryan (Carter), Fred Jr., (Lu Gushanas) of Orlando, and Julie Smith (Holt). She took great pride in her 10 grandchildren, Albie, Braden, Sheldon, Kate, Harper,Luke, Leighton (predeceased), Labri, Tavia, and Kinsey, their spouses, and her 14 great grandchildren. Julia's homemaking skills are legendary with her family and friends. Her daughters , and some times even her son, were lucky to wear the products of her seamstress skills. Her delicious meals could always welcome one more. Her baking was unsurpassed and her cakes were known to travel to many family members and events. Caring for her family and friends was always her foremost concern and with her beautiful smile could always tell you about their activities. Her loving concern will be missed by all. The family wishes to thank special friends Elvira Smith and Evelyn Robinson for their long time love and care as well as the great staff from Community Hospice for their loving care in her final days. Following a private family graveside service, a memorial service will be held at Riverside Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 1:30pm with a reception following at the church. Memorials may be made to the Riverside Presbyterian House Employment Fund, 2020 Park St., 32204; The Northeast Florida Lyme Association, 3948 3rd St. S. #285, Jacksonville Beach, 32250; The Gathering, USA, 1220 E. I worked with your mother many years ago at McGiffin. She was one of the nicest ladies I have ever known, always full of laughter and joy, not to mention her endless energy. I was newly married and she taught me how to sew and make her delicious meatloaf. I still use her receipe today. I know you will miss her but she is in a wonderful place now with Fred and Jesus. May you all find comfort in the
wonderful memories she created with you,as she truly adored her family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Julia was a most gracious and friendly woman. I consider myself very lucky to have known her and Fred. The beach neighbors will miss her dearly!

Dear Linda, Cheryl, Freddie and Julie,
My heart is with you today and prayers for the coming weeks. Memories of your Mom are the kind of lifelong special thoughts that I will keep tucked away forever and draw upon for strength and encouragement each time they are revisited. Your Mom's laughter was so infectious. Her ever present concern and interest in all that was going on is an example of true compassion. She invested her life in other people. The friendship she shared with my Mother was such a sweet example of love. You guys are part of my childhood and I am so very grateful for the ways "Aunt Julia" and your family touched my life. I love you and will be asking for the Holy Spirit to keep each of you and your families in His intensive care today!

I was fortunate to be the "one more" at the Langston family dinner table on many occasions, and I always looked forward to what was going to be served. I recall her mashed potatoes and her divinity to be two of my big favorites. Mrs. Langston was a wonderful part of my growing up years, from making West Riverside carnival costumes, to taking Julie and me to swimming meets with my mother (the water in the middle lane must be faster???), to hosting slumber parties at the beach house. Such fond memories I have of Julia Langston.

I'm thinking of you, Julie, Linda, Cheryl and Freddie.
