MAUREEN DEAN Obituary

DEAN Maureen Ann Dean, 79 yrs. young, passed away peacefully April 27th, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Born August 1st, 1933, in Amesbury, Wiltshire, England, the eldest daughter of Reginald and Sarah Cartwright. She met and married an American, Chief Master Sergeant Robert C. Dean, whose untimely death in 1972 left her to raise their four children. She was first and foremost a dedicated, loving mother who raised her children with kindness and compassion. During their school age years, she was the receptionist for the law firm of Shea, Penland, McCranie and Shad. After retirement, she volunteered as a pink lady at Baptist Medical Center Downtown. A devout Catholic, she was a long-time member of Assumption parish and a volunteer for the St. Vincent De Paul Society, which she enjoyed immensely. She also spent countless hours knitting or crocheting hundreds of baby blankets which were then given to children in need. She is survived by her children, sons Michael C. Dean (Rebecca) Daphne, Al, Robert J. Dean, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl. Command Master Chief (Ret) Richard S. Dean (Sandy) Jacksonville, Fl. and daughter Sharen E. Martin (Joseph), Sunbury, Ga. Sister Patricia H. Fitzwater of Belleville, IL. and cousin Rita Grant of Bexley Heath, England. Eight grandchildren, Alison Holman (Charles), Emily Dean, Philip Dean, Nicholas Martin, Andrew Martin, Katie Dean, Robby Dean, and Petty Officer Second Class Austin Dean, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6p.m. on Tuesday, April 30 with Vigil Prayers at 5 p.m. in Assumption Catholic Church 2403 Atlantic Blvd, Jacksonville FL 32207. Calling hours on Wednesday from 9am to 10am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1st, with Father Fred Parke as Celebrant, followed by interment in Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Maureen s name may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at Assumption Parish.
