Patricia Niemi Obituary

NIEMI Patricia Niemi, 75, passed away Monday the 10th of April, 2017. Born on February 7, 1942 in Yonkers, New York, Patricia was preceded in death by her parents Winifred and Alfred Bourseleth. Patricia graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Cochran School of Nursing, Yonkers, NY in 1962. She continued her education later in life and received her BS in Education from the University of Cincinnati in 1982 where she also did graduate studies. Patricia enjoyed a long rewarding career in the health industry first working as a RN in hospital and doctors office settings. She then transitioned to education where she taught Nursing at the Cincinnati School of Practical Nursing and Health Occupations at the West Clermont High School Career Center both in the Cincinnati, OH area where Pat's care for her students and passion for nursing earned her many honors including teacher of the year. In 1985, after a move from Cincinnati to Satellite Beach, FL, she shifted her energy and passion to elderly health care. For the next 21 years she served the local elder community as a Case Manager for the Visiting Nurses Association, an Administrator of an Assisted Living Facility, and as an Administrator at a private duty nursing firm before retiring in 2006 and moving to Jacksonville, FL to escape Hurricanes and be close to family. Patricia is survived by her loving husband, Raymond; her children Brian (Amy) Tobin of Warrensburg, MO; Michael (Frances) Tobin, of Brandenton, FL; Kim (Mark) Hubbard of Chapel Hill, NC; Kay O'Meara (Todd Sauter) of Villa Hills, KY; Kendra Robertson, of Jacksonville Beach, FL; Nate (Susan) Niemi, of Union, KY; and her sister Ann Vavolizza of Newburgh, NY. Patricia was blessed with 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She enjoyed a full life with her loving family and lifelong friends enriched by many personal interests including having fun with friends in the Sweetwater Community, travel (27 cruises), golf, movies and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 15th at 12:00 noon. at Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home, 3600 Third Street South (A1A HWY), Jacksonville Beach, FL. The family also welcomes friends to join them in a celebration of Patricia's life also on Saturday starting at 3:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn East Baymeadows, 11083 Nursery Fields Drive, Jacksonville, FL. She will be interned in Cincinnati, OH at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery with a Rite of Committal service at a date to be finalized. Please visit our online Tribute at www.quinn-shalz.com. So sorry to hear of Patty's passing. As my older cousin, my memories of her are of happy times with our Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles, and cousins, my parents & brothers and sister, picnics at Drewville & maybe Blue Mountain, dinners at her Mom's home for sure, laughter all around. A beautiful person.
