Patsy James Anderson Phillips heard her name called to be at peace on Friday, April 16, 2021. She was born on September 1, 1934 in Cameron, TX, to Hattie and Jack Anderson. She was a true Texas girl, loved her Dallas Cowboys, spicy foods, and country music. She was a proud member of the O.J. Thomas Class of 1950, in Cameron, TX. Patsy loved music and was an accomplished pianist. After graduating from high school, Patsy attended Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, TX, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Music and her Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL.
Patsy marries Prince Edward Phillips, Sr. in Cameron, TX on July 18, 1956 and relocated to Jacksonville, FL. After relocating, Patsy started her teaching career. She loved teaching and impacting the lives of young people in the schools of Suwanee County-Live Oak, FL, Appling County-Baxley, GA, Coffee County- Douglas, GA, and Duval County-Jacksonville, FL, where she taught at George Washington Carver, Lake Forest, and San Mateo Elementary Schools. Patsy retired on November 12, 1991 after 31 years of dedicated service.
Patsy was an active and dedicated member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church for over 40 years, where she was a member of The Trustee Board, Moderator of the Presbyterian Women's Organization, Children's Ministry, a Sunday School Teacher, Summer Outreach Program, Christian Education Committee, played in the Chancel Handbell Choir, Outreach Committee, worked with the Food Pantry, ICARE of Jacksonville (Interfaith for Action, Reconciliation, and Empowerment), and other numerous committees and organizations. She also has the distinction of being honored as a Lifetime Member of the Presbyterian Women's Organization.
Patsy loved reading, traveling, walking, shopping all day, line dancing, music, and collecting unique, antique bottles and tins.
Patsy's father, Jack Anderson, her mother and role model, Hattie Anderson, and her only and beloved brother, Samuel Kirby Anderson "Bubba", preceded her in death. She leaves to celebrate her life, her loving husband of 64 years, Prince E. Phillips, Sr, a son Prince Edward, Jr., two daughters, Jennifer (Adrian) and Terrie (Dwight Sr.), six grandchildren, Adrian (Cristina), Austin, Dwight Jr., Thea, Morgan, and McKenzie, and one great grandchild, Dwight III, three nephews, Rodney (Brenda) and Gerald, and Lathaniel (Jackie), two nieces, Lois (Oliver), and Tammy, and a host of adoring cousins, family, and friends.
The family would like to thank the employees of Community Hospice and her caregivers, Ms. Fredricka Brown and Ms. Tyneshia Maple for their loving care of Ms. Patsy.
A family service will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery on April 30, 2021 at 11:30 am.
A Memorial Service will be held at a future date.
