Robert Joseph Meagher Sr.

MEAGHER Robert Joseph Meagher, Sr., 89, born April 26, 1917 to Phillip and Mae Meagher in Buffalo, NY, passed away February 17, 2007 in Jacksonville Beach. He was a graduate of Central HS in Binghamton, NY and attended Miami University of Ohio before enlisting in the Army in 1943. In the Army Air Corp. he became a B-17 pilot, flew 35 combat missions, achieved the rank of First Lieutenant and was highly decorated (including the Distinguished Flying Cross). After World War II, he was employed by the Sealright Corporation of Fulton, New York for forty years, rising to the position of Vice-President of sales. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth A. (Betty) Meagher on February 27, 2002. They resided in New York and Massachusetts, but lived at the Beaches for more than forty years. He was a long time member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach, where he coached basketball for many years. He was a founding member of Our Lady Star of the Sea in Ponte Vedra. He is the beloved father of six children; Robert, Jr. (Judy) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Penny Crowley (Jim, Deceased) of Ponte Vedra. FL, Daniel (Sue) of Norwood, MA, Matthew (Patty) of Winchester, MA, Meg Kadish (Stu) of Brant Rock, MA, and Michael (Mary Jean) of Liverpool, NY; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters, Helen of Houston, Texas and Jane of Binghamton, New York. His brother Roger is deceased. A memorial mass is scheduled for 11:00 AM, on March 2, 2007 at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Ponte Vedra, FL.
